The South Metro Democratic Women's Council held a successful General Body Meeting and Membership Drive at Tracey Wyatt Recreation Center, with over 20 attendees. We are pleased to welcome our new members: Taylor Thompson, Pamela Stoner Gay, Ola Harper, and returning member Angela Harris. Throughout the year, the SMDWC will be actively engaged in voter education and other initiatives. As TI would say, "Let them know"!!

SMDWC and South Fulton Democrats participated in the "No Kings Rally" on Saturday. It was deemed a successful endeavor by all. Looking forward to joining forces again by collaborating for such a great cause.

Today, the South Metro Democratic Women's Council observed Women's Month with a special program featuring Dr. Elletta Denson as the guest speaker. She stressed the importance of cultivating joy and purpose, even in challenging circumstances. Dr. Denson also encouraged the audience to transform their personal struggles into advocacy for others. President Katina McCarty recognized Margaret Vaughn (BBA '70 University of Georgia) as a trailblazer within the organization, noting her historic achievement as the first African-American female graduate of Terry College in 1970. The Executive Board honored Dr. Denson, Margaret Vaughn, and newly appointed Parliamentarian Annette Wideman with floral presentations. The event was a meaningful celebration of women. Kudos to all SMDWC!!

President Katina McCarty led the annual strategic planning session of SMDWC, which proved highly enlightening, with members reviewing and understanding the organization's mission and direction for 2026. Members emphasized that voting education, legislative issues, promoting women to seek office, and membership initiatives will be the organization's main areas of focus.

Women in Blue experienced an outstanding day at Georgia's Capitol. We had the privilege of sitting in the gallery and observing the Senators conducting the people's business. It was an enriching and enjoyable experience. SMDWC is fully aware of its assignment for 2026!

January 19, 2026, marks a significant day as thousands of Atlantans gather for a powerful day of community service, contemplation, and unity, paying homage to the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We acknowledge and appreciate our newly elected president, Madam Katina McCarty, and her family, who are embodying the spirit of a 'day on' rather than a 'day off.' Madam President, we thank you for your exemplary leadership on this momentous day. SMDWC will maintain its commitment to community engagement throughout the year. What a wonderful way to conclude our year with smiles, camaraderie, excellent cuisine, and the installation of officers for 2026-2027. When you have Councilmembers and the Mayor Elect of the City of South Fulton in attendance, what more could you ask for. Many thanks to the council for presenting our outgoing president with a proclamation. It was a beautiful gesture and greatly appreciated. Please enjoy the photos below.
