I find it difficult to look at the Mills administration and the majority party in general that in the coming year we will be dealing with a $1.3 billion budget deficit. I have spent 4 years as State Rep, made hundreds of comments about reckless spending so this should not be a surprise to anyone. What may be a surprise is that the only way to navigate this budget gap is to raise revenue (TAXES). The current majority party has been in power for almost 48 years except for two sessions. This is not a problem the Republicans landed in your lap.... yes, your lap. The government in Augusta does not create revenue, they simply spend what they raise in taxes. Government is an expense, not a revenue stream. Voting Republican will create a softer landing for taxpayers. How? By repealing many of the laws put into place. Not all are bad policies, but most of them seem to be. The current administration use buzz words to hide the damage.... balanced budget, supplemental budget, affordability, un funded mandates, etc. You hear them all the time but I don't believe everyone understands these buzz words are simply describing how the taxpayer will fund the reckless spending that has gone on for decades. I know many Democrats, I like many Democrats.... when you are in the booth voting in November, do yourself a favor and look at how many of them voted down party lines. That method of fiscal management doesn't make any sense and certainly defies everything the word management stands for.
How can every Democrat vote in favor of every Democrat sponsored bill, no matter the fiscal note (how much it will cost the taxpayers). The simple answer is the majority party is only interested in their agenda, not the taxpayer, not the senior residents that are being forced out of their generational home, not the Mainer who has to choose whether to spend their limited income on prescriptions? Food? Heating or electricity? Access to affordable healthcare? For those who may comment with something about Trump..... my advice to you is turn inside, its Maine we have to save first.
$1.3 billion deficit.... that's the problem and it's not a problem caused by Republicans..... As a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Taxation for 4 years now. I sat helpless to ward off the Democrat Affordability due to the Democrat majority in the House and Committees.... 32 new taxes passed by the majority party just last session. Can you really afford another Democrat majority in Augusta? That's not campaign slogan. That's a real question.
Don't even get me started on Troy Jackson.....you can believe what you want about him but I worked with him, I know him.
