The newly expanded campus allows visitors the opportunity to experience birds of prey in a natural setting and to learn more about avian science and environmental conservation. The Center for Birds of Prey invites visitors to discover the life of raptors through educational conservation programs, captivating flight demonstrations and guided walking tours. We are open to the public three days a week and offer coordinated education programs that include a program and flight demonstration in our large outdoor amphitheater. Guests are also welcome to take a virtually guided walking tour of our outdoor campus where our aviaries house nearly 50 species of eagles, falcons, hawks, owls, vultures and other birds of prey from all parts of the world.

Few birds are as captivating as the Great Grey Owl. With its massive facial disc, piercing yellow eyes, and beautifully patterned plumage, it really is one of nature’s most remarkable owls.

But there’s more to this owl than its extraordinary appearance. This particular bird is believed to have been among the first Great Grey Owls successfully bred in captivity in North America, a pretty cool piece of avian history.

A beautiful owl with an equally fascinating story. Visit our Center to see how much more stunning she is in person.

Who’s flying over our skies? Zach Underwood is keeping count.

This World Migratory Bird Day, we’re highlighting Zach’s work on our Coastal Raptor Survey, tracking the birds moving through our skies this fall.

Today’s count is 22 so far, but it’s been a big week: 609 raptors recorded, including 311 Ospreys!

Along with each count, Zach records species, flight direction and weather conditions, contributing data that helps researchers better understand migration patterns.

Visit us Thursday through Saturday and join Zach for a look overhead. You never know what might pass by.

Thank you Zachary Underwood for keeping count!

Behind many of the birds that arrive at our Avian Medical Clinic is a volunteer who helped get them here. 🤍

From across the region, our dedicated volunteer transporters help injured and orphaned birds make the journey to the Center, where they can receive the medical care they need.

It is a crucial part of our work, and one that wouldn’t be possible without the time and commitment of these volunteers.

WANT TO BE A PART OF IT? Join our upcoming virtual Transport Training to learn how you can help give birds in need a second chance.

Meet Cooper and Connor. Their love of birds began when they were little. Somewhere along the way, their visits to our Center became something more. For the past several years, they’ve shared their birthday money with the Center - returning year after year to support the birds they love.

And they really do love birds. Their family has traveled from Maine to see puffins, to Florida for Burrowing Owls and most recently to Arizona in search of Harris’s Hawks, quail and roadrunners.

Recently they returned with another $200 of their birthday money. Connor chose a Harris’s Hawk for his photo, a species he’s loved since he was little, while Cooper chose one of our Spectacled Owls.

Thank you, Connor and Cooper, for growing up with us and continuing to care. 🤍 Watching a love of birds grow into a desire to protect them is pretty special.

Sometimes the hazards wildlife face are closer to home than we realize.

This Great Horned Owl was rescued after becoming entangled in a soccer net. After the netting was removed and its injuries were given time to heal, the owl progressed to outdoor conditioning, where our Avian Medical team can continue to evaluate its flight and recovery. 🤍

A simple reminder: When soccer nets are not in use, take them down or lower them to the ground to help prevent wildlife from becoming entangled.

And as we head into spooky season: Consider skipping the fake spiderweb decorations altogether. The web-like material can easily entangle birds and other wildlife.🕸️

Small changes can make a big difference for wildlife.
