--Boil Water Notice--

North Lauderdale Water Association has issued a boil water notice due to loss of system pressure resulting from a prolonged maintenance action. All members and water customers of the system within the area depicted below who experienced a complete loss of pressure or flow on 21 September are affected.
As a precaution, those affected should not use tap water for drinking, making ice cubes, preparing food, or brushing teeth without first boiling it vigorously for at least one minute.
More detailed map available at https://diamondmaps.com/map.ashx?mid=22294

North Lauderdale Water will be testing water to determine residual chlorine disinfection levels and submitting samples to the state laboratory for contaminant testing for the next 48-72 hours. We will contact members when the water passes all tests and boiling is no longer necessary.

Members and customers may call the North Lauderdale Water office at 601-681-6157 or check our page at https://www.facebook.com/northlauderdalewater for more information.

--Meridian annexation hearing is tommorow at 9am--

Any resident of Lauderdale County who is opposed to Merdian annexing more territory, or is opposed to a second data center has an opportunity to register their opposition at the Chancery Court tommorow at 9 am. If you believe Marion rather than Meridian should annex this land in the Sonny Montgomery Industrial Park that Marion already serves with water and sewer with an exclusive certifcate of public convenenience and necessity and under a longstanding agreement with Lauderdale County, and that Marion should reap the tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue instead of Meridian, this is also your chance to register your opposition. This hearing is just to register official opposition to Meridian's annexation and to schedule future court sessions. It is not a trial or for presenting evidence. It is expected to last about an hour.

The Chancery Court is in the new County Administrative Complex on 22nd Ave south of the Police Station (formerly Village Fair Mall).

As a cooperative, NLWA encourages our members to participate in governing the water association and in governming themselves by active participation in our annual meetings, in local government, and in civic affairs. This issue touches on NLWA because of Meridian's annexation into our service territory 18 years ago that has proved be a painful story of unkept promises and neglect for 600 of our members. Also, Meridian's ongoing illegal encroachment into our service area and poaching of more than 100 residences and scores of other water customers represents about a $400,000 loss of revenue to the Association.

In green below is the area adjoining the Sonny Montgomery Industrial Park that Meridian is trying to annex. The Town of Marion owns the 750,000 gal water tower in the industrial site and already has a water well and treatment plant at the proposed annexation site, along with a 12" water line and a 6" sewer line.

--Annual Meeting Docs Posted--

Please visit https://nlwa.ms and select the Annual Meeting link to navigate to the official page where we have posted the minutes, operations report, audited financial report, and amended bylaws. Having 130 members participate this year is most ever recorded. Thank you for participating in the government of your member-owned water system.

The North Lauderdale Water Association (NLWA) was established in 1966 by 12 founding member households and originally consisted of a single well that pumped 250 gallons per minute, a small chlorination and filtration facility, two 200,000-gallon storage tanks, and 62 miles of distribution pipeline...

--Record participation in Annual Meeting--

We had 48 members filling the pews of the church and 86 participating via proxy for a grand total of 134. After a rather rambunctious start, the meeting settled down as the president delivered the annual operations and financial update and then covered the proposed bylaws amendments in detail. After two and a half hours of full-throated democracy, with all voices heard and all questions answered, the bylaws amendments were passed by unanimous vote after a single edit to the language was offered from the floor and adopted. Likewise, both board members up for re-election were re-installed by unanimous votes. Thank you for your participation in governing your member-owned cooperative. Meeting documents to be posted to the website shortly.
