We would like to congratulate Fire Chief Bush McCarthy on his recent graduation from Staff and Command!

This is a 9 month Leadership course that he attended, all while taking on the new Fire Chief role and diving right in to make the BCFD excel and succeed! 👏🏻

We appreciate his outstanding Leadership and continued Service as the Fire Chief!

Way to go Chief!!

Remember the Edmund Fitzgerald. And whether your stove is still on.

Yes, those are connected now. The firefighters will explain.

Welcome to November: month 1 of “Fire Prevention Month. All 12 of Them.”

We’re starting with a heavy hitter: cooking is the leading cause of home fires, according to the U.S. Fire Administration. So November’s focus is unattended cooking.

Your assignment: remain at the helm. Specifically, your stove. If you need to abandon the galley, turn the burner off first.

Will remembering the Edmund Fitzgerald help you remember that? We intend to make it difficult not to.

We’ll be visiting Neighborhood Planning Council meetings in the coming weeks with oddly specific pledges and a limited supply of commemorative magnets.

Text BCFireSafe to 38276 to follow along.

We had a great time, and a great turnout at the Trunk or Treat at Bailey Park tonight with all of our surrounding first responders!

We loved seeing all of the costumes and community out and about having fun! Everyone have a safe and Happy Halloween! 👻 🎃 🚒

Your brain is still storing a commercial jingle from 20 years ago. Someone gives you the first few notes, and suddenly you know every word.

We’d like a few fire safety tips to get that same treatment.

October is ending. Fire Prevention Month isn’t.

Introducing Fire Prevention Month. All 12 of Them.

The city manager asked departments to work together to better serve our neighbors. We may have gotten a little carried away.

Through October 2027, we’re connecting prevention and preparedness tips with local history, pop culture and unexpected associations—whatever helps the lesson stick.

This video is your introduction. Our first monthly installment arrives Sunday, Nov. 1.

The project is growing as we go, and we want neighbors to help shape it. Bring your ideas, appear in a video or join an activity. There’s room for you here.

Text BCFireSafe to 38276 for campaign updates.

Share your ideas: battlecreekmi.gov/BCFireSafe

Congratulations, Battle Creek. You’re officially part of the group project now.

It is a good reminder to check your Smoke Detectors when the clocks go back this weekend.

If you have a Smoke Detector with replaceable batteries, now is a good time to install new batteries.

If you have a sealed 10 year battery in yours, now is the time to check to see if it is time for new Smoke Detectors.

The sacrifices you all make do not go unnoticed!!!

Happy First Responders Day!! 🚒🚓🚚🚑
