Today, we’re highlighting the Texas Supreme Court race for Chief Justice and the Democratic candidate, Maggie Ellis for Justice.

Maggie Ellis has more than 15 years in family, juvenile and criminal law, including extensive pro bono work. She believes that every defendant should be heard and that all parties must be treated equally.

The Texas Supreme Court has nine seats total (called “places”) total, with four to be elected this cycle — including the Chief Justice. Currently ALL Texas Supreme Court seats are held by Republicans.

This Court interprets statutes affecting civil rights, corporate liability, environmental regulations, and abortion access. Their rulings establish legal precedents that dictate how businesses operate and how laws passed by the Legislature are enforced.

It is the court of last resort for civil matters. In 2025, 90% of decisions from the 3rd Court of Appeals (which covers Bell County) were reversed by this court!

Get out there and vote for Maggie!

Today we're highlighting Place 9 of the State Court of Criminal Appeals, and why you should vote for Holly Taylor.

Holly's 25-year career has included work as both a criminal defense attorney and as a county prosecutor. She seeks to ensure that the State Court of Criminal Appeals remains independent of political pressure and rules with integrity and impartiality.

Get out there and vote EARLY for Holly!

Don't let Ken Paxton undermine the separation of powers. The Houston Chronicle editorial board recommends two Democrats and one Republican for the court.
