What could the future of emergency response look like? 🚁
Beginning May 18, the City of Bloomington will launch a two-week test and demonstration period exploring Drone as First Responder Technology and how it could support City operations in the future.
Bloomington Police and Fire, along with several other City departments, are partnering on the effort as part of a broader regional exploration happening across Twin Cities metro communities.
Curious how it works and what’s being tested?

Chief Hodges provides update from a shooting that occurred May 4th, 2026.
Parties involved were locked up. Don’t come to the Orange Jumpsuit District and think you are going to get away. We have some of the best investigators around.
Have a great weekend. Be safe, and remember we are here for you.
During National Police Week, Chief Hodges shared a heartfelt message recognizing the dedication, sacrifice, and service of law enforcement officers everywhere.
In light of the recent attacks on officers here locally, Chief Hodges also expressed support for the Richfield Police Department and the officers involved in the recent officer-involved shooting. Incidents like these are a sobering reminder of the risks officers face each day while serving their communities.
We also want to recognize and thank the families behind the badge. Your support, sacrifice, patience, and strength make it possible for our officers to continue serving others every day.
To all who serve, and to the families who stand beside them, thank you. Your commitment to protecting our communities is deeply appreciated, not just during Police Week, but every day of the year.
We’re excited to share a new tool we’re using to better understand traffic patterns across Bloomington.
Urban SDK helps us look at:
• real driving speeds
• areas with recurring speeding concerns
• traffic patterns by time of day
• data that can help validate community complaints
The system uses third-party traffic data that shows overall driving patterns and does not identify individual vehicles.
This gives us a better understanding of where traffic concerns are happening so enforcement and traffic safety efforts can be more focused and data-informed.
We’re also exploring how this information could eventually become available in a public-facing version so residents could better understand traffic patterns on their own streets.
What traffic concerns do you notice most often in your neighborhood?

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms out there. 💙
Today, we especially want to recognize the moms who are spending their Mother’s Day serving others, responding to calls, working long shifts, and helping keep our community safe while their own families wait for them at home.
To every mom, whether you wear a uniform, work behind the scenes, stay home with your kids, or support your family in countless unseen ways… thank you.
Moms are the real superheroes. Your strength, sacrifice, patience, and love never go unnoticed.
We hope every mother feels appreciated and celebrated today. ❤️
UPDATE!!! WE are back online… you can once again call us on the non-emergency. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Fire Department must have popped a fuse when plugging in their motorized recliners. 😂 jk we love BFD.

🚨The Bloomington Police Explorers proudly represented our department at the 51st annual state conference in Rochester this past weekend! 🚓
Thanks to the kindness of barber Daveal Halliburton , who provided complimentary haircuts, the explorers arrived at the competition looking sharp. 💇🏻
Months of hard work and dedication paid off, with notable achievements including first place in traffic stops, third place in traffic stops, second place in retail crime, and fifth place in street decisions. 🏆
