Most students think research teams are only for science majors with lab experience. They're not. They're for anyone curious enough to say yes.

This Spring 2027, Florida Atlantic University's Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) program is launching 5 brand-new research teams. Earn course credit, work alongside faculty mentors, and build real skills in AI and data science. Zero prior experience needed, open to every major.
• CoastSight: AI for Disaster Intelligence - Build AI that understands disasters. Generate realistic hurricane and flood videos from text prompts, then train AI to interpret them and answer questions, supporting emergency response and more resilient coastal communities.
• Hidden Life in Burrows & Reefs - From the field to the sequencer. Collect samples from marine sponges while snorkeling and from gopher tortoise burrows, then analyze the DNA left behind to identify organisms too small to see.
• Quantum-Accelerated Therapeutics - Where quantum computing meets cancer research. Screen potential drug candidates on Florida's first on-campus quantum computer, then test the most promising ones on human cancer cells in the lab.
• RISE: From Story to Stage - Where theatre, nursing, and data science meet. Collaborate with military veterans to transform their stories, including the bond they share with their dogs, into original performances, and explore how creative expression affects resilience.
• Self-Regulation in Preschool Classrooms - Where wearable technology meets early childhood. Use sensors, classroom audio, and AI to study how young children learn to manage emotions and attention, then present your findings through posters, presentations, and publications.

Swipe through to explore the opportunities at Florida Atlantic 👉
📅 Priority deadline: Oct 25, 2026
📅 Final deadline: Nov 18, 2026
