🚨 **SCAM ALERT — BOURBONNAIS POLICE DEPARTMENT** 🚨

It's time for another reminder:

The Bourbonnais Police Department and other area departments continue to receive reports of phone scams. Please help protect yourself and your loved ones by recognizing the warning signs.

Scammers may claim to be:
▪️ A representative of a government agency
▪️ Computer tech support
▪️ A friend or family member arrested needing bond money
▪️ Someone you met through a dating website

They often pressure you to act immediately or threaten consequences if you don’t pay.

🛑 **Government agencies will NEVER demand payment through gift cards.**

If someone tells you to purchase Apple, eBay, Target, Google Play, or other gift cards and share the card numbers and PINs, **it’s a scam.** Do not send photos of the cards.

Be cautious if someone sends you a check for more than expected and asks you to return the difference. The check may be fake, leaving you responsible for the money.

✅ **Hang up. Slow down. Verify the story independently using a trusted phone number.**

If you have already shared gift card information, contact the card issuer immediately and ask whether the money can be frozen or refunded. Keep your cards, receipts, and messages.

**Please share this post and talk with your loved ones—awareness can prevent someone from becoming the next victim.**
