In September 2026, BPD officers and detectives participated in Operation Coast to Coast, a nationwide human trafficking initiative bringing together law enforcement agencies and community partners to combat human trafficking. Detectives identified more than 20 potential trafficking victims through online advertisements posted within our local community.
During the operation, detectives made contact with several women, providing opportunities to connect with local victim advocacy organizations for immediate assistance, supportive services, and pathways toward recovery. Detectives also identified and established investigative connections between suspected traffickers and potential victims, furthering ongoing efforts to disrupt trafficking networks operating within our community.
Human trafficking is not just a national issue—it is happening in our own communities. Through proactive investigations, collaboration with victim advocates, and partnerships with agencies across the country, we remain committed to identifying victims, connecting them with resources, and holding those responsible for exploitation accountable.
Nationally, Operation Coast to Coast resulted in:
• 74 adult victims identified
• 5 juvenile victims identified
• 125 arrests
• More than $1 million seized
• Participation from over 200 agencies across 22 states

Detective Shirley Diaz has been conducting a follow-up investigation of a s*x offense involving a juvenile victim. During the course of the investigation, Det. Diaz has regularly remained in contact with the victim for case status updates and out of general concern. Earlier this week, Det Diaz drove to the victim’s residence to see how she was doing with her newborn child. During the visit, Det Diaz found out that the victim was in serious need of diapers for the baby. Det. Diaz also knew that Bremerton Food Line, which provides baby needs for our community, is suffering from historically low donations and resources themselves. Det. Diaz utilized another resource available to her, Blue Bridge Alliance, and was able to buy a couple packages of diapers for the victim. With the immediate needs met, Det Diaz also directed the victim to other resources for continued support. That is excellent investigation and compassion for community members that the officers and detectives of BPD routinely show. Nice work Shirley, thank you to our partners at Blue Bridge Alliance for making this possible, and MOST NOTABLY, a big THANK YOU to the many donors in our who have generously supported this cause! There’s a side of being a first responder that most people never see: The interrupted dinners. The missed birthdays. The long shifts that turn into even longer nights. It’s carrying the weight of someone else’s worst day and still showing up for the next call.

It’s the things they’ve seen but don’t talk about. The families waiting at home. The exhaustion behind the smiles. And the willingness to do it all again tomorrow.

Being a first responder isn't just about the uniform or the title. It's about the heart it takes to keep showing up, even on the hard days.

So today, we recognize more than just the job. We recognize the people behind it.

The ones who give so much of themselves, often without anyone realizing just how much.

Thank you to our Officers and all surrounding agencies that we have the pleasure of working with frequently. THANK YOU!
