Please join us in recognizing Officer Shaffer for receiving a Life-Saving Commendation for his actions while off duty.
On May 17, 2026, Officer Shaffer and his family were enjoying the day together when he noticed a 3-year old boy being lifted from a pool. Officer Shaffer sprang into action and began administering chest compressions and rescue breaths. The 3-year old child responded quickly to the CPR and began to spit up water before regaining consciousness. The child was subsequently taken to the hospital where he made a full recovery. Officer Shaffer's willingness to step forward, even while off duty, reflects the character, dedication, and commitment to service that we ask of those who wear the badge.
Officer Shaffer was formally recognized for his actions at the Board of Supervisors meeting on September 23, 2026, where his life-saving efforts were acknowledged by the community he serves. The family attended the meeting to share in this important moment of recognition. Their presence was a powerful reminder of the profound impact Officer Shaffer's actions had on a family and their future.
Congratulations, Officer Shaffer, and thank you for your courage, compassion, and continued dedication to our community.
