Today wraps up our second round of USCG1 labs which we teach on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Next week we begin again with all new groups. Our students also complete a 14 week online course. By the end of the semester we will have trained over 200 students! Successful completion of USCG1 allows students to take USCG2 which includes live fire training and Advanced Firefighting topics, a prerequisite for summer sea term on the TSSOM.

Students in our firefighting program train hands on with both conventional fire equipment and digital simulation. We flow water with 2 1/2 inch hose outside on the helicopter deck. And this digital nozzle and weighted hose allows our students to train in interior spaces on the TSSOM without flowing water. It's all part of the process of preparing our students for live burns in the spring!
