This photo was taken nearly 10 years ago, when The Beancounter was just beginning. I had no idea what an incredible journey was ahead of me…Ten years ago, I opened the doors to The Beancounter Coffeehouse & Drinkery with a dream, a whole lot of determination, and absolutely no idea how much this coffeehouse would change my life. If these walls could talk, oh, the stories they could tell!
There have been incredible highs, heartbreaking lows, sleepless nights, unexpected challenges, a few tears, and plenty of moments when I wondered what on earth I’d gotten myself into! But there has also been more laughter, love, friendship, and joy than I ever could have imagined. Owning a small business isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s personal, exhausting, rewarding, and sometimes downright crazy. But I wouldn’t trade this journey.
The Beancounter has never been only about coffee. It’s about people, community, and a place I’m incredibly proud to call home.
My love for Downtown Burlington, Iowa runs deep. I believe in its history, its character, its potential, and the incredible people who work so hard to make it special. I’ve always believed a thriving downtown is the heartbeat of a community, and I’m proud that The Beancounter has been part of that heartbeat for 10 years.
To every member of our Brew Crew, past and present, thank you for putting your hearts into this business. You’ve helped build something I never could have created alone. To my family, thank you for supporting my dreams, tolerating the crazy hours, and loving me through all the ups and downs. And to our customers and this wonderful community, YOU are the reason we’re celebrating 10 years! You’ve welcomed us into your lives, celebrated with us, supported us through challenges, and given our coffeehouse a place in your hearts.
We’ve grown, changed, taken chances, made mistakes, learned lessons, and kept moving forward. And through it all, my love for this business and this downtown has only grown stronger. Ten years ago, I took a chance on a dream. Today, I realize that dream became something so much bigger than I ever imagined. And the best part? I’m not finished dreaming!
Here’s to the first 10 years, the people who made them possible, and all the possibilities of THE NEXT TEN! Thank you for believing in me, believing in The Beancounter, and loving our corner of Downtown Burlington as much as I do.
