The Cahokia Heights Fire Department is proud to introduce Probationary Firefighter Chimata, one of our newest members who brings a passion for helping others, a commitment to learning, and a desire to make a difference in the lives of those we serve!

❤️ A Passion for Helping Others

Chimata has always been drawn to helping people and sees the fire service as an opportunity to make a meaningful difference.

Although not originally from Cahokia Heights, Chimata recognized a community worth serving and a department worth becoming part of.

As Chimata puts it:

“Community isn’t just where you live. It’s the people you choose to show up for.”

That statement represents what the fire service is all about — stepping up for others, regardless of where you come from.

🚨 Starting a New Journey

With no previous firefighting or EMS experience, Chimata is beginning this journey with an open mind and a willingness to put in the work.

Chimata looks forward to learning from experienced firefighters, gaining hands-on emergency response experience, and developing skills that will last a lifetime.

💪 Serving Beyond Boundaries

For Chimata, serving the community means dedicating time, energy, and effort to helping people during some of their most difficult moments.

It’s not about where you live or where you grew up. It’s about being willing to answer the call when someone needs help.

🎓 From the Firehouse to the Medical Field

Chimata’s long-term goal is to attend medical school and become a physician.

The experience gained through the Cahokia Heights Fire Department will help build a foundation in patient care, teamwork, emergency response, and remaining calm under pressure.

🚒 ONE DEPARTMENT. ONE TEAM. ONE MISSION.

As our department continues to grow, we are proud to welcome individuals who are willing to dedicate their time to learning, training, and serving our residents.

👨‍🚒 Meet Probationary Firefighter Cao!
🏠 Station 2 | House 2

The Cahokia Heights Fire Department is proud to introduce Probationary Firefighter Cao, one of our newest members who brings a passion for healthcare, a willingness to learn, and a strong commitment to serving others!

🎓 From the Classroom to the Firehouse

Currently a pre-health student at Washington University in St. Louis (WashU), Cao joined the fire service to gain a better understanding of what happens before a patient ever reaches the hospital.

With aspirations of becoming a physician, Cao recognizes that emergency care often begins long before a patient enters an emergency room. Joining the Cahokia Heights Fire Department provides an opportunity to experience that critical first step firsthand while developing valuable emergency response and EMS skills.

🚨 Starting from the Ground Up

Although Cao joined with no previous firefighting or EMS experience, that hasn’t stopped the determination to learn and grow.

Through department training, Cao has begun building a foundation in firefighting, emergency response, and teamwork while learning from experienced members who understand the responsibilities that come with serving the community.

💪 What Does Serving the Community Mean?

For Cao, community service is about giving time, effort, and dedication to helping others, regardless of how big or small the impact may be.

It’s also about building meaningful connections with the residents we serve and becoming part of something bigger than oneself.

🎯 Looking Toward the Future

Cao’s immediate goal is to continue developing as a probationary firefighter, gaining experience, and earning a place as a dependable member of the team.

The long-term goal is to become a physician, carrying the lessons learned through firefighting, emergency response, and community service into a future career in medicine.

❤️🖤 ONE DEPARTMENT. ONE TEAM. ONE MISSION.

At Cahokia Heights Fire Department, we recognize that every member brings something unique to our organization. Whether someone comes with years of experience or walks through our doors with none, what matters most is their willingness to show up, put in the work, and serve others.

Probationary Firefighter Cao, welcome to the Cahokia Heights Fire Department family! We look forward to watching you grow, develop your skills, and accomplish your goals both in the fire service and in medicine.

But today isn’t just about us.

We also want to recognize ALL of the first responders who come when WE call for help!

🚒 Our neighboring fire departments and mutual aid partners who never hesitate to send personnel and equipment when additional help is needed.

🚑 Our EMS partners who provide lifesaving care and work alongside us on emergency scenes.

🚓 Our law enforcement partners who help protect our crews, secure emergency scenes, and keep our communities safe.

Different uniforms. Different departments. Different responsibilities. ONE mission — protecting lives and serving our communities.

As we continue building a stronger, more unified Cahokia Heights Fire Department, we remain grateful for the relationships, teamwork, and support of every agency that stands beside us.

To every first responder working today, those spending time away from their families, and those who have dedicated their lives to serving others — THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO!

❤️ From all of us at the Cahokia Heights Fire Department, Happy National First Responders Day!

🚒🔥 NEW MEMBER SPOTLIGHT | CAHOKIA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT 🔥🚒

👨‍🚒 Meet Probationary Firefighter Guthrie – Engine House 2!

The Cahokia Heights Fire Department is proud to welcome Probationary Firefighter Guthrie to our family! With an incredible 34 years of public safety experience, Guthrie brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership, dedication, and a lifelong commitment to serving others.

🔥 A Fire Service Career That Started With a Fire

Guthrie’s journey into the fire service began in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, when an electrical fire broke out in the mobile home where he was living. After firefighters responded and handled the emergency, one of them asked if he had ever considered volunteering.

That simple conversation led him to visit the local fire department, and the rest is history.

On August 13, 1992, Guthrie began his fire service career as a volunteer firefighter, beginning a journey that would span more than three decades.

🚒 34 Years of Experience and Leadership

Throughout his career, Guthrie has served as both a volunteer and paid firefighter, holding positions including Firefighter, Shift Lead, Deputy Chief, and Assistant Chief.

His extensive background includes certifications and experience in firefighting, hazardous materials, emergency medical services, fire instruction, fire investigation, and arson investigation.

Beyond the fire service, Guthrie is also a Texas Advanced Peace Officer with additional training and instructor qualifications in mental health, active shooter response, and fi****ms.

His experience brings a valuable perspective to our department, particularly as we continue bringing firefighters from different backgrounds and experience levels together.

🤝 Why Cahokia Heights?

What excites Guthrie most about joining our department is the opportunity to refresh his skills, continue learning, and be part of something bigger.

He recognizes the importance of bringing multiple fire departments together as one unified organization, providing our community with greater resources, manpower, experience, and leadership.

He looks forward to seeing newer firefighters and seasoned veterans learn from one another and work together to provide the best possible service.

❤️ A Calling to Serve

For Guthrie, public service isn’t simply a job. It’s a calling.

He believes God placed him on a path to help others during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. His dedication runs so deep that he has the words “In Service To Others” tattooed on his forearm.

Those words represent the commitment he has carried throughout his career and continues to live by today.

⭐ A Message Worth Sharing

One message Guthrie wants both our members and our community to understand is that professionalism isn’t determined by a paycheck.

Whether a firefighter is paid or volunteer, professionalism comes from pride in the job, dedication to training, accountability, and the desire to continually improve.

A professional firefighter is someone who takes their responsibilities seriously, respects the profession, and never stops learning.

🎯 Looking Ahead

Guthrie’s goal is simple: to remain a positive, professional, and dedicated member of the fire service while continuing to serve others for as long as he is able.

Please join us in welcoming Probationary Firefighter Guthrie to the Cahokia Heights Fire Department and Engine House 2!

We are fortunate to have someone with his experience and dedication joining our ranks. His willingness to continue learning, even after 34 years, is an example of the mindset we want to build throughout our department.

Different backgrounds. Different experiences. One mission.
