Warm weather and breezy conditions will increase fire danger in parts of Minnesota over the next few days.

You can prevent wildfires by being careful with activities that can cause a spark and following wildfire prevention tips:

🔥 Check burning restrictions and get your burning permit before burning large piles of vegetation.

🍂 Consider alternatives to burning leaves and needles, such as composting. Burning large piles of leaves and needles can create large flying embers that can ignite dry fuel nearby.

đźš™ Park OHVs and vehicles on gravel or pavement. The hot exhaust can easily ignite tall, dry grass.

🪣 Keep campfires small and manageable. Always stay by the fire and put it out cold before you leave.

Remember, conditions can change quickly. Even with some light rain, vegetation can dry out quickly afterward. Leaves and grasses can dry in as little as one hour, and small branches take only 10 hours after the rain stops. Stay vigilant this fall to prevent wildfires.

No open burning - All issued burning permits are inactive today, 10/10/26. The MN DNR has issued no open burning, campfires discouraged in both Dakota and Goodhue counties. Low humidity, elevated temperatures, strong winds, and dry vegetation will allow for rapid fire spread.

National Farm Safety Week — Combustible Grain Dust

Grain dust isn't just a housekeeping issue—it can be a serious fire and explosion hazard. 💥

As grain moves through a handling system, dust can accumulate around grain legs, conveyors, augers, bins, dryers and other equipment. When that dust is combined with an ignition source, the consequences can be devastating.

During harvest, take time to keep your grain system clean and operating safely:

🔹 Keep dust under control. Regularly clean accumulated grain dust from around legs, conveyors, motors, bearings and other equipment.

🔹 Watch for heat. Overheated bearings, motors and other components can become ignition sources. Pay attention to unusual heat, sounds or odors.

🔹 Inspect belts and moving parts. Misalignment, rubbing and friction can generate heat and sparks.

🔹 Keep electrical equipment and wiring in good condition. Damaged or improperly maintained electrical components can create ignition hazards.

🔹 Don't overlook your dryer. Keep the area around your grain dryer clean and free of accumulated grain and dust, and follow the manufacturer's maintenance recommendations.

🔹 Address problems before they become emergencies. If you see excessive dust, unusual heat, belt rubbing or another potential hazard, stop and investigate.

A clean, well-maintained grain system is a safer grain system.

🌾 This harvest season, take a few extra minutes to look, listen and keep your grain system safe.

Over the weekend, Miesville Fire had the opportunity to host a live training burn. Training in an acquired structure provides firefighters with an experience that is as close to real-world structure fire conditions as possible. Just as we would during an actual structure fire, we trained alongside our mutual-aid partners - Cannon Falls Fire and Rescue and Randolph-Hampton Fire District. This multiagency training strengthens the relationships, communication, and teamwork essential to an effective emergency response.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this training possible. Opportunities like this allow our firefighters to sharpen their skills and better prepare to serve our community when it matters most. A special thank you to Red Wing Fire Department for providing and staffing an ambulance during the training event and to King’s Place for providing lunch.

Twenty-five years ago, the world changed in a matter of hours.

On Sept. 11, 2001, firefighters, police officers, EMTs and other first responders ran toward danger while millions of others were running away. They climbed the stairs of the World Trade Center, entered the Pentagon and responded at a field in Pennsylvania — doing what they had trained to do: help people.

Some never came home.

Almost 3,000 people were killed that day, including 343 firefighters and paramedics with the New York City Fire Department, along with police officers, other first responders and civilians who were simply going about their lives. Some first responders are still dealing with physical and mental after-effects of the attack.

Twenty-five years later, we remember their names. We remember their courage. We remember the families, friends and communities forever changed by their loss.

And we remember the promise at the heart of the fire service: to serve, to protect and to run toward those who need help — no matter the risk.

Today, we honor every life lost on 9/11 and every first responder who answered the call.

We will never forget.
