Green Earth, Inc. is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit, land conservation organization that preserves natural areas in the Carbondale, IL area for public enjoyment.

Green Earth owns and maintains six preserves in the Carbondale area, totaling over 220 acres. Each site is open to the public for hiking during daylight hours. Hiking trails are located within each of our preserves; most are roughly 1.0 mile in length and are easy-to-moderate in difficulty. What happens to the nearly 1,000 jack-o-lanterns after the Pumpkin Glow ends? We're delighted to report we've made some cows very happy!
The spent pumpkins are sent to two local, sustainable farmers: Angie's Farm of Pomona and BackAcres Farm of Anna.

Edit: We should add that, when possible, we do send many of these amazing pumpkins on to help decorate other community events. Since these works of art fade quickly, the events need to held within a day or two.

The Pumpkin Glow Starts Tonight!

Help us spread the word so your friends and family know that over 900 Jack-o-lanterns will be waiting to light their way down the trail starting this evening (Thursday, October 22nd) @ 5:30pm.

Or join us this Friday (10/23) or Saturday (10/24) from 5:30-9:30pm. Either way, we hope to see you at Oakland Nature Preserve in Carbondale, Illinois (1201 N. Oakland) for this year’s Pumpkin Glow.

The countdown is officially ON! We are seven days away from The Pumpkin Glow, annual Jack-o-Lantern Hike!

Get ready to experience the most magical fall tradition in Carbondale. Grab your family, bundle up, and join us for an enchanting nighttime hike as we light up the woods with nearly 1,000 glowing jack-o'-lanterns!

When: October 22nd, 23rd, & 24th (Thursday – Saturday)
Time: 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM nightly
Where: Oakland Nature Preserve (1201 N. Oakland Ave, Carbondale)
Suggested Donation: $7 for adults (Kids are free!)

The Pumpkin Glow, 2026 is just weeks away!!! We want to take minute thank this year's Major Sponsors: E.T. Simonds Construction, City of Carbondale Government, and Carbondale Township. Through sponsorships, logistical support, borrowed equipment/materials, and help from some top-notch personnel, we couldn't even begin to host this event without these amazing organizations.

We’re Honored!

Proceeds for this year’s Pabst & Tats event in Carbondale go to Green Earth! Yes, we’re apparently that cool. 😁

Come by Neon Tiger for a special themed tattoo and then PK’s from 11-8 for a quick bite, a beverage to beat this heat, and your chance to bid in their silent auction and support our organization.
