❤️🤍💙CGUHSD VETERANS DAY SPOTLIGHT: Harley Grigg – Vista Grande High School

This Veterans Day, we are proud to recognize Harley Grigg of Vista Grande High School, who served in the United States Air Force from 1994 to 1998.

During his service, Grigg was assigned to the 790th Security Police Squadron at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming. His responsibilities included providing security for missile operations, convoys and base defense.

We are grateful for the dedication and commitment it takes to serve our country and protect those who serve alongside us.

Thank you, Harley Grigg, for your service to our nation and for being part of the Vista Grande Spartan family!

❤️🤍💙CGUHSD VETERANS DAY SPOTLIGHT: John Morris - Casa Grande Union High School

This Veterans Day, we are proud to recognize John Morris, who served in the United States Marine Corps from 1982 to 1986 during the Cold War era.

Serving as a Lance Corporal, Morris was an 0311 R***eman and 8541 Scout-Sniper assigned to the Surveillance and Target Acquisition Platoon, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines. During his service, he completed two West-Pac deployments with Battalion Landing Team 1/1 and received extensive specialized training.

His training included forward observation for close air support, artillery and naval gunfire; helicopter landing zone preparation; basic demolitions; mountain and jungle warfare; urban operations; and motorized reconnaissance and patrols.

Among his recognitions were the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one bronze star, Expert R***e Marksmanship Badge (third award), Expert Pistol Marksmanship Badge (second award), and Good Conduct Medal.

The photo accompanying this spotlight captures a milestone in his service: his graduation from USMC Scout-Sniper School.

❤️🤍💙CGUHSD VETERANS DAY SPOTLIGHT: 1stSgt. Alberto Griego – Vista Grande High School

This Veterans Day, we are proud to recognize 1stSgt. Alberto Griego, Marine Instructor at Vista Grande High School, whose commitment to service spans an incredible 45 years in uniform.

1stSgt. Griego served in the United States Marine Corps for more than 20 years, from May 1982 to August 2002, retiring at the rank of First Sergeant. One of his most memorable assignments was serving as a Drill Instructor at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in South Carolina from 1988 to 1990, where he helped shape recruits into United States Marines.

For the past 25 years, he has continued that mission of leadership and mentorship as a JROTC instructor. As he shared, watching students grow into successful young men and women and productive members of society has been the greatest reward of his service.

From molding Marines to mentoring the next generation of leaders at Vista Grande, 1stSgt. Griego's dedication to service continues to make a lasting difference. Thank you for your service to our country and your continued commitment to our students!

🏈 Vote for Our CGUHSD Girls’ Flag Football Standouts!

Congratulations to VGHS senior Aries Whittaker and CGUHS senior Kayla Tacker for being recognized by The Arizona Republic among Arizona’s top flag football players for the week of October 26–31!

🖤💛 Aries Whittaker – VGHS
Aries had seven receptions for 145 yards and three touchdowns on offense, plus eight flag pulls and a sack on defense in the Spartans’ 56-0 win over Tucson Pueblo.

💙💛 Kayla Tacker – CGUHS
Kayla recorded 12 receptions for 167 yards and five touchdowns on offense, along with nine flag pulls and an interception on defense in the Cougars’ 48-13 win over Phoenix Carl Hayden.

📣 Future Spartans Mini Cheer Camp 🖤💛

Future Spartans are invited to cheer with our Spartan Cheerleaders! Participants will practice on December 2 from 5:30–8 PM and perform during halftime at a varsity basketball game on December 3.

📍 Registration: Vista Grande Cafeteria, on select Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6–8 PM.

💲 Registration Fees:

By November 14: $30 (includes a bow)

November 15–24: $40 (bow not guaranteed)
