💙🚨 Teamwork That Saves Lives! 🚨💙

Dispatcher Stephanie was recognized for her outstanding work during a challenging 9-1-1 call that truly shows the importance of quick thinking, teamwork, and determination!

A male had crashed his dirt bike in the Jackson Creek area of Douglas County. With no cell service at the crash site, his brother had to hike out to find service and call 9-1-1 for help.

When Stephanie answered the call, it came in as a Phase 1, meaning the only location information available was from a cell tower, with no accurate location of where the injured rider was. With very little help from technology, Stephanie had to rely on her training, questioning skills, and knowledge of the area to figure out where they were.

Meanwhile, Dispatcher Emily was working the radio, coordinating the response of fire crews and search and rescue teams. After a tremendous amount of teamwork and coordination, crews were able to locate the injured rider, and AirLife transported him to the hospital for medical care. 🚁

Larkspur Fire, Jackson 105 Fire, Douglas County Search and Rescue, and Douglas Regional 9-1-1 were recognized for their teamwork and quick thinking that helped save this man’s life.

❤️The best news is he is recovering and was able to attend ceremony in person to thank the first responders who helped him!

We couldn’t be prouder of Stephanie and Emily and all the first responders involved. This call is a great reminder that behind every emergency response is a team of dedicated people working together, often with limited information, to get help where it’s needed most.

👏 Congratulations to everyone recognized, and thank you for the incredible work you do for our community!

As our final contract dispatchers finish their assignments, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank them for everything they have done for Douglas Regional 9-1-1 over the past year!

These dispatchers made the commitment to leave their homes and families behind to come work alongside our team. During a time when staffing had been a challenge, they helped fill gaps in our schedule, reduce the amount of overtime our full-time dispatchers were required to work, and ensure our communities continued receiving the service they deserve.

But they did so much more than just fill shifts. They became part of our team, built friendships, shared their experience, and quickly became part of our dispatch family. 💙

We know that living away from home for extended periods of time comes with sacrifices, and we are incredibly grateful for their dedication, flexibility, and willingness to step in when we needed them most.

As their contracts come to an end, we want to say THANK YOU for your hard work, your commitment to our center, and the friendships you’ve made along the way.

We wish each of you nothing but success in your next chapter. No matter where your careers take you, you’ll always have a place in the DR911 family!

If you are ever in a situation where you cannot safely make a phone call, you can text 9-1-1 to get the help you need!

Whether you’re hiding from a dangerous situation, unable to speak, or experiencing an emergency where making noise could put you at risk, Text-to-911 can be a lifesaving option.

📲 How does it work?

• Open your phone’s text messaging app.
• Enter 911 in the recipient field.
• Include your exact location and a brief description of your emergency.

⚠️ A few important things to remember:

✅ Call if you can, text if you can’t! Calling 9-1-1 is still the fastest and most effective way to communicate with a dispatcher when it is safe to do so.

✅ Text-to-911 availability varies by location, so always pay attention to any message indicating your text was not delivered.

✅ Do not text and drive.

Have you ever accidentally called 9-1-1?

So far this year, Douglas Regional 9-1-1 has received 3,425 accidental cell phone calls from Douglas and Elbert counties. If you call by mistake, tell the dispatcher what happened. Stay on the line and answer their questions, including confirming your location and name. If you already hung up, answer when we call back.

A few simple steps can help prevent accidental calls and save dispatchers and responders time:

- Lock your phone before putting it in a pocket, purse, or bag.

- Check your phone’s Emergency SOS and crash detection settings so you know what activates them.

- Keep old phones away from children. A phone without an active cell plan can still call 9-1-1.

Just this year, our fire agencies have responded to 105 motor vehicle crash detection alerts where no accident had occurred.

Law enforcement agencies in Douglas and Elbert counties have responded to 3,465 abandoned 9-1-1 calls or open lines where nothing could be heard.

Accidental calls happen. Staying on the line helps us confirm you’re okay.

Today, members of our team visited Rock Canyon High School and spoke with four criminal justice classes about the world of 9-1-1!

Students learned how a 9-1-1 call is handled, what happens behind the scenes, and what a career as a dispatcher looks like. They were welcoming, engaged, and full of great questions throughout the day.

Thank you to Mr. Paul for inviting us and giving us the opportunity to share more about our profession!

Another baby girl has made her grand entrance with a little help from 9-1-1! 💗

On the morning of September 21, a mom in Elbert County delivered her baby just as the call to 9-1-1 was being made. This little one was not willing to wait for responders! Our call taker stayed on the phone and provided post-birth instructions to Mom and Dad while Rattlesnake Fire was on the way.

Congratulations to the family on their beautiful new addition, and great job to Mom, Dad, Dispatcher Megan D., and the Rattlesnake Fire responders!

Megan received her stork pin, and another baby bird was added to our Tree of Life. Welcome to the world, sweet baby girl! Rattlesnake Fire Protection District

24 years ago today, Stephanie and Kim started their careers with Douglas County Dispatch (Prior to us becoming Douglas Regional 9-1-1) and today they decided to celebrate by pulling out their old uniforms and wearing them to work.

Stephanie has been here ever since, spending the last 24 years as a dispatcher serving our responders and community.

Kim took a little detour away from us, but eventually realized she missed us too much and came back. She now serves as our 9-1-1 Data Support Specialist and plays a huge role behind the scenes pulling audio for Discovery, CJRA requests, and other departments.

Just to put into perspective how long ago 24 years was…

📞 Flip phones were cool.
💿 We were still burning CDs.
📺 American Idol had just premiered.
🎥 Tobey Maguire was the new Spider-Man.
🗺️ We printed directions from MapQuest.
💬 And texting meant pressing the “7” button FOUR TIMES just to type an “S.”

But our favorite way to measure it?

Four of our current dispatchers WERE NOT EVEN BORN YET!

A lot has changed in 24 years — technology, equipment, 9-1-1, and thankfully, the uniforms.

Happy 24th work anniversary, Stephanie and Kim! Thank you both for the years you have dedicated to 9-1-1 and Douglas County. We’re also very impressed that you managed to hang onto those uniforms for this long.
