Considered to be one of the three most historically significant Colonial buildings in the United States, the Old Exhange Building is a "must see" when visiting Charleston. The Old Exchange is where South Carolina ratified the US Constitution in 1788 becoming the 8th state to join the union. It was used as a prison by the British occupation during the Revolutionary War.

Hear ye! Hear ye! Here is the South Carolina Gazette for October 9–16, 1755. The Gazette was among the Palmetto State’s first successful newspapers and ran until 1775. None other than Benjamin Franklin helped relaunch the paper with a printing partnership with Lewis Timothy. When Mr. Timothy died in 1738, his widow, Elizabeth Timothy, took over and ran the paper successfully until their son Peter came of age. She was the first woman to publish a newspaper publisher in colonial America.
