West Virginia DMV's new Cryptids license plate, designed by Jesse Corlis, features a total of nine spooky friends with ties to West Virginia locations. The full list will be on our website dmv.wv.gov -- but take a close look first. Who do you recognize?

Our Commissioner, Everett Frazier, said it best ---

🦶👀 WEST VIRGINIA, ARE YOU READY FOR SOMETHING A LITTLE OUT OF THE ORDINARY? 👀🦶

First and foremost, I would like to pay tribute to Jesse Corlis, the talented graphic artist who designed the Cryptid license plate, along with several other license plates you see traveling the roads of West Virginia every day. One particularly popular design is the Pollinators plate, better known as the “Bee Plate.”

Tragically, Jesse passed away in 2023 before he had the opportunity to see the Cryptid plate come to fruition. We recognize his creativity, talent, and contributions to the West Virginia license plate program, and we are proud to see his work celebrated through this unique design.

Now, contrary to popular belief, the DMV does have a sense of humor! 😁

With that in mind, we’re excited to introduce a license plate celebrating West Virginia’s legendary myths, folklore, and mysterious creatures. From stories passed down through generations to those who claim to have had a possible sighting, these mysterious beings have long been part of our state’s unique culture and mountain heritage.

Who knows? You might even spot one of these mysterious creatures while traveling our beautiful Mountain State! 👀

📣 HERE’S THE SCOOP!

The new Cryptid license plate will be available for purchase beginning Monday at all West Virginia DMV Regional Offices.

💵 Registration Fees:

1-Year Renewal: $61.50
2-Year Renewal: $113.00
Current plates can be exchanged for a Cryptid plate: Registration fees will be prorated as applicable.
So, whether you’re a believer, a folklore enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates a little mystery, this plate may be just what you’ve been looking for!

West Virginia has plenty of legends. Now you can put one on your vehicle!

Keep your eyes open, drive safely, and remember: You never know what might be lurking in the hills of Almost Heaven!
