As a part of a national effort with @eji_org the Charlotte Remembrance Project is telling the dark and difficult stories of Charlottes history of lynching. Yesterday, a marker was unveiled that will ensure that this history is never forgotten. It does not change the past, but it is an important step to reckoning with the truth of what has happened in our city, and all over this country. It happened here.

Today, we celebrate the incredible contributions of Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner, born in Monroe, NC on May 17, 1912. A true pioneer and inventor, Mary created innovative solutions for women’s health, including the adjustable sanitary belt, a game-changer for menstrual care.

Despite facing discrimination in her field, Mary held five patents and inspired many with her resilience and creativity. Her legacy reminds us of the significant impact of African American inventors.

Let’s honor her memory by recognizing the importance of innovation and inclusivity in our communities! ❤️✨

"Witnesses reported that a number of white men circled the Baker house at night, set the building on fire, and fired up to 100 bullets at the house while Mr. and Mrs. Baker and their six children were inside. Mr. Baker was shot to death while trying to escape the burning house. As Mrs. Baker fled the burning house carrying Julia, the baby was shot dead in her mother’s arms."
