Starting services should not feel like stepping into the unknown.

Before day one, ask who your contact is, what needs to be confirmed with the case manager, what the schedule looks like, and what families should expect during the first few days.

Clear answers can make a new start feel much more manageable.

Follow Essential Living Support for practical Wyoming support guidance.

One distinction can clear up a lot of confusion in the Wyoming DD Waiver process:

Being eligible and having funding available are not the same step.

If your family is waiting, ask the case manager or state Benefits and Eligibility Specialist what information is needed next and what resources may be available in the meantime.

This ELS clip breaks it down simply.

What does person-centered support look like on a normal Tuesday?

It looks like real choices. Preferences being heard. Plans being changed when the person changes their mind.

Ask a provider for a real example. Examples often tell you more than a phrase in a brochure ever could.

This ELS clip explains what to listen for.

You may see “HCBS” everywhere in support paperwork. What does it actually mean?

HCBS stands for Home and Community-Based Services.

More importantly, it is about everyday life: routines, relationships, participation, choice, and being part of the community.

This short ELS clip explains the term in plain language and gives families a useful question to ask.

Who will actually be there day to day? That question matters.

Families can ask who will provide support, how staff are prepared, and what happens when the usual person is unavailable.

A strong support plan should include a backup plan too.

This quick ELS clip gives you a practical place to start.
