A truly impactful day of advocacy in Springfield! 🏛️
On May 6, our DFSS Senior Services Deputy Commissioner, Margaret Laraviere, proudly joined network leaders from across the state for Older Adult Advocacy Day. Our top priority was securing support for a critical $10 million funding increase for Home-Delivered Meals (HDM)—a service that keeps thousands of Chicago seniors healthy, independent, and nourished.
Key Highlights from the Day:
✨ The Press Conference: Margaret spoke in the Capitol’s Blue Room alongside I4A directors. We were honored to have the support of Senate Majority Leader Kimberly Lightford, Senator Doris Turner, and Assistant Majority Leader Camille Lilly, who all spoke passionately about protecting our senior services.
✨ Legislative Meetings: Our team met with lawmakers and staff to advance our funding efforts and share crucial constituent resources, including senior employment and volunteer opportunities.
✨ Collaborative Vision: We also had a brief opportunity to connect with Mayor Johnson (Chicago Mayor's Office), who acknowledged the vital importance of HDM services and his shared commitment to DFSS’s work.
We are incredibly proud of this collective effort to champion the needs of older adults. Thank you to everyone who stands with us to support Chicago’s seniors!

Chicago, thank you for standing in solidarity with us! 👖
Last week, the Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) and the Chicago Mayor's Office of Community Safety (MOCS) joined the global community in observing Denim Day 2026.
This movement serves as a vital reminder that victim-blaming has no place in our society. By wearing denim, we protest harmful myths that suggest clothing equals consent and reaffirm our commitment to supporting survivors of gender-based violence.
Check out these photos of our DFSS and MOCS staff standing together for a safer and more supportive Chicago! 📸
DFSS continues to prioritize trauma-informed care and equitable access to resources through initiatives like the Survivor Fund (the-network.org/survivor-fund)
