Tallahassee, FL – Today, FloridaCommerce announced that Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is available to businesses and residents whose employment or self-employment was lost or interrupted as a direct result of Hurricane Isaias (DR-4955) and are not eligible for regular state or federal Reemployment Assistance benefits. FloridaCommerce is accepting applications for DUA from residents and businesses in Bay, Escambia, Gulf, Holmes, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Walton, and Washington Counties.

DUA is available to those who are ineligible to receive federal, or state Reemployment Assistance benefits and the individual meets one of the following requirements:

Is unemployed as a direct result of the major disaster.
Was scheduled to start employment but was unable to as a direct result of the major disaster.
Is unable to reach their job or self-employment location because the individual has to travel through an affected area and is prevented from doing so as a direct result of the major disaster.

Is unable to work because of an injury that was a direct result of the major disaster.

DUA is available for weeks of unemployment beginning October 11, 2026, through May 1, 2027, as long as the individual’s unemployment continues to be a result of the disaster in the designated disaster areas. The deadline to submit a claim for DUA benefits is no later than December 28, 2026.

To file a claim, go to www.FloridaJobs.org and select “File a Claim”, visit a local CareerSource Career Center, or call 1-800-385-3920 for DUA claims information. Customer service representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Applications filed after the deadline will be considered untimely and DUA benefits may be denied unless the individual provides good cause. Applicants must submit their Social Security number, check stubs, and documentation to support the claim that they were working or self-employed when the disaster occurred, or evidence substantiating they were unable to begin employment or self-employment due to the disaster. In some cases, additional documentation may be required. To receive DUA benefits, all required documentation must be submitted within 21 days from the date the DUA application is filed.

📢 IMPORTANT UPDATE: STORM DEBRIS COLLECTION – WASHINGTON COUNTY

We want to clarify some previous information regarding storm debris collection and sincerely apologize for the miscommunication. We understand how important it is for residents to have storm debris removed, and we appreciate your patience as cleanup efforts continue.

🚛 WHERE WILL FDOT COLLECT DEBRIS?

FDOT will collect storm debris along county- and city-maintained roads only. This means that gated communities, private roads, and roads that are not maintained by the county or city will not be serviced by FDOT.

📍 WHAT IF YOU LIVE ON A PRIVATE ROAD OR IN A GATED COMMUNITY?

Residents living on private roads, in gated communities, or along roads that are not maintained by the county or city are responsible for moving their storm debris to the right-of-way of a county- or city-maintained road for collection.

Please ensure debris is placed safely along the right-of-way and does not obstruct travel lanes or create a safety hazard.

📅 WHAT ABOUT THE COLLECTION SCHEDULE?

FDOT crews are continuing debris collection throughout Washington County. The first pass is not expected to be completed until Friday. At this time, we do not have an updated map or a confirmed daily schedule showing which areas have been completed or where crews will be working each day.

A second debris pickup is planned, providing an additional opportunity for collection. More information will be given when it becomes available.

We understand that residents are eager to have debris removed and recognize the frustration that can come with uncertainty during recovery. We apologize again for the confusion and appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as this process continues.

Please share this information to help ensure residents throughout Washington County receive the correct guidance.

Thank you for your continued cooperation!
