🧐 Ever wonder why the fields at Zenda Farms Preserve look a little different throughout the year?
🐦We manage the fields at Zenda with wildlife in mind! Through rotational mowing and haying, we help keep the fields open and prevent shrubs and trees from taking over. This creates the kind of habitat grassland birds like Bobolink, Henslow’s Sparrow, and Eastern Meadowlark need to find food, build nests, and raise their young.
🚜Without regular management, open fields can gradually fill in with shrubs and trees, leaving less space for these birds to thrive.
🌾By carefully managing when and where we mow and hay, we can help keep these fields healthy and provide important habitat for wildlife.
