Special Report - Cliffside Park on Demand: Grand Reopening of the Cliffside Park Senior Activity Center
“We are here in my hometown of Cliffside Park, celebrating a wonderful event, this is the grand opening to the addition to our amazing senior center, the Gerald A. Calabrese Senior Center”, shared Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese, District 36.
Cliffside Park resident, Gerald Calabrese, Jr. stated “It’s a tribute to my Dad; who served this community for 55 years as the Mayor of this town; and he spent a good deal of his time trying to establish the Senior Citizens Complex here; him along with his Borough Attorney went down to Washington D.C. back in the late 60’s and they lobbied for the money to build the building here; now we have a tremendous complex that he would be so proud of this day.”
“The Housing Authority did an amazing job at making the Center bigger and better than ever”, shared Linda Phillips-Perez, Program Coordinator, for the Cliffside Park Senior Activity Center.
Joseph Capano, Executive Director of the Cliffside Park Housing Authority and Senior Activity Center, stated, “We’ve added about 5,000 more square feet to the Housing Authority Senior Activity Center and the Administrative Offices; just giving us more space to continue to do what we do: to serve the people in Cliffside Park and our surrounding communities.”
Cliffside Park Borough Councilman John Chmielewski shared, “We now have a beautiful state of the art facility that is going to serve our seniors well; we have beautiful extra indoor space; beautiful outdoor space.”
“The Senior Citizen building here; the work that you have done Joe, is amazing and we are so proud to be part of your community”, stated Borough of Fairview Mayor Violetta Berisha.
Borough of Cliffside Park Mayor Thomas Calabrese shared, “It all starts with Joey Capano and his entire staff, Peter Colao and all of our Commissioners; thank you to all of the Seniors who come here everyday.”
The Michael A Russo Memorial Scholarship Fund Inc was given a $5,000 donation from the Senior Activity Center Club.

On behalf of the Borough of Cliffside Park, Happy Juneteenth!
The name “Juneteenth” comes from the date June 19th, the date in 1865 when Union troops landed in Galveston, Texas with news that the Civil War was over and that all who were enslaved were to be freed. This was 2 and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
Juneteenth is a commitment to the equality and dignity for all.

Mayor Thomas Calabrese along with Borough Council members, Councilwoman Dana Martinotti, Councilman Peter Colao, Councilman Eurice Rojas accepted a check in the amount of $300,000 on behalf of the Borough of Cliffside Park.
The Mayor and Borough Council were joined by Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco along with Bergen County Commissioner Chairman Tanelli, Commissioner Amoroso, Commissioner Ortiz and Commissioner Voss who approved a $300,000 Open Space Trust Fund Grant for renovations at the Multipurpose Field at
Harvard Place.
Thank you County of Bergen, Bergen County Executive, Jim Tedesco as well as the Bergen County Commissioners for your support of the Borough of Cliffside Park’s Open Space and revitalization efforts to provide a beautiful quality of life for the residents of the Borough of Cliffside Park.
