Have you ever wanted to undertake your own birding Big Year? Or maybe you’ve dreamed of breaking a record of how many birds were seen in an area during the year. Join us in Concord on Saturday, November 7, and learn what it was like for Stacey and Noah to do both!

Friends and avid birders Stacey Huth and Noah Gibb planned out their year, woke up early, survived mostly on coffee and pizza, and documented a staggering 332 bird species in the state of Maine in 2025. At 2pm, Stacey and Noah will be at the McLane Center for a free book signing (books can be purchased at the event) and then will stay for an indoor presentation. You are also welcome to explore the sanctuary grounds, visit our Nature Store, and visit our ambassador amphibians and reptiles. This is a free event, but please RSVP to ensure we have enough seating for all: https://nhaudubon.org/event/an-experiment-in-birding/

Featured Volunteer Opportunity: Vacation Day Camp

Do you have a love for nature and want to share that appreciation and passion with the next generation of environmental advocates? Join our team as an Environmental Education Volunteer, working with our vacation day camps during February or April. Our Winter Wonders Camp runs from February 22–26, 2027, and our Signs of Spring Camp runs from April 26–30, 2027. Camp runs from 8:30am-4pm each weekday, but volunteer schedules are flexible within this timeframe. This is a rewarding experience and can include assisting our education staff during presentations to creating and assisting with activities.

Training is provided, but we ask that candidates have some experience working with children. You must be willing to employ the “curiosity-first/influence-before-control” behavior management method, which can be learned during training. Must be willing to submit to a criminal background check. Contact Anita Fernandez [email protected] if interested.

It's our annual autumnal reminder to resist the urge to tidy up your garden! Leaving seed heads, dried stems, and fallen leaves provides essential habitat for pollinators and beneficial insects.

Messy gardens offer shelter for bees, butterflies, and other insects to overwinter, while native plants continue to feed wildlife. By keeping your garden a little wild, you’re supporting the health of pollinator populations and fostering biodiversity.

Let your garden go wild this fall and make a difference for pollinators!

Our first New Hampshire butterfly has crossed into Mexico! About an hour ago, NHA-11, a male monarch butterfly radio-tagged on September 18th by NH Audubon, left Texas and pinged a little south of Piedras Negras, Mexico—over 3,000 kilometers from where it was deployed!

If you would like to see all of the NH Monarch Festival and NH Audubon butterflies, download the Project Monarch Science app. You can follow the butterflies in real-time.

Congratulations, NH Audubon!

Birdability Week is in full swing, and the NH Audubon Lands Department wanted to take a moment to highlight our most recent project. If you’re visiting the Massabesic Center to , we hope you take advantage of the recently installed All Persons Trail extension. This new portion of trail is flat, even, and made from stone dust and aggregate to provide a durable surface for our visitors. This new extension makes our trailhead kiosk and picnic table accessible to visitors in wheelchairs, families with strollers, hikers with mobility impairments, and anyone looking to enjoy a nice afternoon in the open air.

NH Audubon is committed to ensuring that our open spaces can be accessed and enjoyed by all. To this end, if you like the design of our picnic tables, the plans can be found for free on our website. We’d also like to thank our project partners from The Trade for all their hard work helping us get this project completed. We hope that whether you’re taking advantage of this new trail extension at the Massabesic Center, visiting the McLane Center’s All Persons Trail, or enjoying the foliage up at the Alice Bemis Thompson Wildlife Sanctuary accessible boardwalk, you’re enjoying Birdability Week!
