Public Notice: Feline Panleukopenia Virus at the Fayette County Animal Shelter
We want to inform the public that the Fayette County Animal Shelter recently experienced an outbreak of Feline Panleukopenia Virus.
Sadly, as a result of this outbreak, we had to humanely euthanize 11 cats, in addition to the 3 cats initially euthanized when the outbreak was first discovered. This was an incredibly difficult situation, and we are saddened by the loss of these animals.
The shelter has been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to help prevent further spread of the virus and protect cats moving forward.
To ensure the safety and well-being of the animals in our care, we will not be accepting any new cats or kittens until Wednesday Noember 4 2026.
We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we take the necessary precautions to protect the health and safety of the animals at the Fayette County Animal Shelter.
