The Cortlandville Fire Department provides Fire~Rescue service for the Town of Cortlandville in NYS

The Cortlandville Fire Department operates three engines, three tankers, two brush trucks, one ladder tower, and one heavy rescue out of two stations that cover approximately 70 square miles. Our district includes 20 miles of Interstate 81, part of the State University of New York at Cortland Campus, and is the center of retail in Cortland County. We annually respond to 500 plus emergency calls ranging from structure fires and car accidents to flooding and wires down. The members of the Cortlandville Fire Department pride themselves on training and operating as the counties FAST team.

Prior to this evenings department meeting, a meal was provided by Texas Roadhouse . Members of the department were also presented with a check from Tractor Supply Co. in honor of their Hometown Heros event. Thank you to both organizations for thinking of us

Have a safe and Happy Halloween...members will be heading out soon to visit with trick-or-treaters!

10/30/2026

Starting at approximately 6:00 PM on Saturday, October 31, our members will be out throughout the Town of Cortlandville visiting trick-or-treaters

If you see us stopped in your neighborhood, make it a point to say hello, grab some candy, and take pictures with the crew! Be sure to share your photos with us—we’d love to see your costumes and Halloween fun!

As you plan your evening, keep these safety tips in mind:

Stick to well-lit streets and homes. Avoid dark yards, alleys, and poorly lit areas. Carry a flashlight and wear reflective items to help drivers see you.

Have an adult check all candy before eating. Only eat treats in intact, original manufacturer packaging. Discard anything unwrapped, opened, or with damaged packaging.

Drivers: slow down, stay alert, and watch for children crossing between parked vehicles.

45 years ago, on this day (10/9/1981) Homer firefighter Romano Petrucco passed away from a heart attack while operating at a gas spill in the Town of Cortlandville. At the time, Firefighter Petrucco was a member of the Frank K Taylor Hose Co.4, which just a few months later would become the Cortlandville Fire Department.
