Today crews are ditching on Pittsburg Road, hot patching on Goodall Road, repairing cable guardrail on I-69, and scraping gravel roads in various locations. An arm mower will be operating on Riniel Road.

Love is in the air, and deer are on the move!

It's the fall rut, the annual breeding season when increased deer activity raises the risk of vehicle-deer crashes.

In the past three days alone, KCRC crews have removed 44 deer from roadsides across the county. That's nearly the number of deer donated to support local veterans following four weeks of hunting through the DNR's crop damage permit program, which we highlighted last week.

Please remember:
- Stay alert behind the wheel, especially at dawn and dusk.
- Scan for deer along the roadside, especially near wooded areas and fields.
- If you see one deer, expect others nearby.
- Don't veer for deer! Brake firmly, stay in your lane and maintain control of your vehicle.

According to the Office of Highway Safety Planning, Michigan recorded 58,271 vehicle-deer crashes in 2025, resulting in 1,724 injuries and 13 fatalities.

Stay alert. Slow down. Watch for deer.

New this winter: NWS can include Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) wording for Blizzard Warnings and Ice Storm Warnings. This will be reserved for storms where there is high confidence in a rare and extreme event.

🚧 Cronk Rd between Chipman Rd and Delaney Rd | 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (berming)

Good morning!
Today crews will be berming on Cronk Road, replacing a culvert on Ruppert Road, and scraping gravel roads to get them in good shape for winter. The arm mowers will be operating in Fairfield and Shiawassee townships.
ROAD CLOSURES FOR TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27th:
🚧 Cronk Rd between M-52 and Hickory Rd | 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
🚧 Ruppert Rd between Beard Rd and Locke Rd | 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Unsecured loads not only endanger you, but also other drivers and pedestrians. Each year, more than 700 people are killed and 17,000 more are injured because of objects in the road.
Tips for securing your cargo properly:
- Tie it down with rope, netting or straps.
- Tie large objects directly to your vehicle or trailer.
- Consider covering the entire load with a sturdy tarp or netting.
- Do not load excessive amounts of cargo in or on your vehicle or trailer.
- Always double-check your load to make sure it’s secure.
