🚧 ROAD CLOSURE REMINDER – HIGHWAY 32 / LAKE AVENUE 🚧

The Crandon Police Department would like to remind motorists that Highway 32 / Lake Avenue remains CLOSED to through traffic as construction continues.

Recently, we have seen an increase in vehicles traveling through the active construction zone, including driving around barricades, construction equipment, open excavations, and other hazards. Officers have stopped and issued citations to motorists disregarding the posted road closure.

Road Closed signs remain posted at both ends of the construction zone, as well as at intersecting streets throughout the project area.

We understand that everyone is eager for the roadway to reopen, especially now that the first layer of asphalt has been laid. However, the road is NOT yet open to through traffic, and the construction zone continues to present safety hazards for both motorists and construction crews.

We ask that everyone please respect the posted closures, use designated alternate routes, and refrain from driving through the construction zone until the project is complete and the roadway has officially reopened.

Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and for helping keep our community and construction workers safe!

A few important reminders:

• Please do not drink and drive. Plan ahead, designate a sober driver, and help keep our roads safe.

Attention Facebook followers WE ARE NOT selling or allowing anyone to sell shirts for the Crandon Police department. We are being spammed by bots very heavily at the moment with fake shirt sales. These are all fake, do not click on links or buy anything. We can't block or stop them because it's an open page but I'm working on it. I'm removing them as fast as I can but I'm not by a computer so it's a slow process. The only shirt we sell is our k9 shirts that are only available at the police department itself. Report and block all comments from people if you see them, thank you.

COMMUNITY TRAFFIC NOTICE – LAKE AVE AREA

We have recently received several concerns and heard discussion within the community regarding the dirt path located off Lake Ave on the north side of town. Some motorists have been using this path as an alternative route around the current Highway 32 construction.

The Crandon Police Department is currently working to determine the legal status of vehicle travel on this path. Portions of the south end involve Wisconsin Department of Transportation highway property and DNR-managed land, while a portion of the north end crosses private property. The appropriate state agencies have been made aware of the situation and will determine whether any additional restrictions or signage are necessary on their respective property.

At this time, our primary concern is not simply that people are using the path, but the manner in which some vehicles are being driven on the path and throughout the surrounding neighborhood.

Under normal circumstances, this neighborhood sees relatively little traffic when Highway 32 is open. With the construction and resulting increase in vehicles, there is an increased safety concern for residents, pedestrians, and especially children who live and play in the area.

We are asking everyone traveling through this neighborhood to slow down, drive responsibly, and use extra caution.

Due to the increased traffic and safety concerns, officers will also be conducting increased traffic enforcement in this area. Our goal is not to issue citations unnecessarily, and we generally prefer to educate drivers and use warnings when circumstances allow. However, given the increased risk to residents in this neighborhood, traffic violations that create a safety concern will be addressed more strictly.

We understand that road construction and detours can be frustrating and inconvenient, and we appreciate everyone's patience while the Highway 32 project continues.

Thank you to everyone in our community for slowing down, driving responsibly, and helping us keep our neighborhoods safe.
