Ongoing Drug Investigation Leads to Six Additional Arrests in Kemper County

As part of an extensive investigation that began in 2025, the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office and partnering agencies conducted the latest phase of an ongoing enforcement effort throughout Kemper County on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

Beginning at 0600 Hours, the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Philadelphia Police Department, and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, conducted a coordinated operation to execute multiple arrest warrants throughout Kemper County. The operation resulted in six individuals being taken into custody and the ex*****on of one search warrant.

During the operation, authorities seized several pounds of suspected ma*****na, fi****ms, and pills pending laboratory analysis.

The Kemper County Sheriff’s Office will continue to pursue those involved in the illegal distribution of controlled substances. Our commitment to enforcing the law remains firm, regardless of the substance involved or public opinion surrounding its use.

Sheriff James R. Moore and the Kemper County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank our partnering agencies for standing shoulder to shoulder with us throughout this operation. Their personnel, resources, and expertise strengthened a unified effort with a clear objective: disrupt illegal drug activity and bring those responsible before the courts.

A MESSAGE TO THE CITIZENS OF KEMPER COUNTY

I want to take a moment to share some important information with the citizens of Kemper County.

The Kemper County Sheriff’s Department has received $201,009.28 in federal funding to help provide much-needed equipment and technology for our department.

I want to make it clear that this funding is designated for equipment and technology, not salaries or employee pay. As I begin purchasing equipment and technology needed to better equip our deputies and improve our department’s capabilities, I want the citizens of Kemper County to understand where these funds are coming from and how they are being used.

Purchases covered by this funding will be paid for with federal funds rather than county tax dollars. This allows us to better equip our deputies and strengthen our department’s capabilities, all while preserving local county resources.

As your Sheriff, I believe in transparency, accountability, and being a responsible steward of public funds. The citizens of Kemper County deserve to know how their Sheriff’s Department is funded and how those resources are being used to serve and protect our community.

My commitment is to continue seeking funding opportunities that allow our department to improve its equipment, technology, and ability to serve the people of Kemper County.

Thank you for your continued trust and support. It is an honor to serve you.

— Sheriff James R. Moore
Kemper County, Mississippi
