The annual reading of the Declaration of Independence returns to the City Hall steps on Sat., July 4, at 9 a.m. This year’s event carries added significance as communities nationwide commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Joining John Adams and Thomas Jefferson this year is Josiah Bartlett, bringing a New Hampshire voice to the program. Bartlett, a physician and statesman from New Hampshire, served as a delegate to the Continental Congress and was a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Members of the public are invited to participate in a community charrette, a planning workshop designed to gather input from residents, stakeholders, and local organizations to help shape the future of the former Liberty Mutual campus. A city contractor will begin work on pedestrian crossing upgrades along Central Avenue at First and Second streets starting Monday, June 22. Improvements include the installation of curb bump-outs, which are designed to shorten pedestrian crossing distances and enhance visibility for all road users.

Motorists, pedestrians, property owners, and nearby businesses should anticipate temporary impacts within the project area during construction. Work is expected to be completed by August 14, weather and field conditions permitting.

The Dover Public Library will reopen at 73 Locust St. on Friday, June 26, following its renovation project. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 9 a.m., and the public is invited to attend.
