We forgot to snap a picture at the school, but the East Alton Middle School Honor Society wanted to do something special for East Alton first responders. Over the past month they collected food, sports drinks, waters, snacks, electrolyte powders, you name it. There was so much it nearly filled our break table. We thank you so much and appreciate the support of the community.

It was a big night last night. Chief Golike retired as Chief of the department with his family and friends by his side. We wish Chief Golike nothing but the best on his future and hope he enjoys his retirement. With Chief Golike's retirement, Major Al Adams was sworn in as the new Chief of police. Chief Adams has been the Major of the department for over five years and we know he will do a fantastic job as the new leader of the department. Congratulations to you both on these great accomplishments.

Due to construction on Smith St ,near the Post Office, the Halloween Parade on Oct. 29th will NOT be traveling down Smith St. It will come past the Vital Services Building like years past, but will continue south on N Shamrock until reaching W St Louis Ave. Then end at the Legion on East Alton Ave.

Last week Major Adams was honored by the Illinois Association of Arson Investigators, along with State Fire Marshall Investigator Handshy, receiving the Distinguished Team Award in Peoria IL. Adams and Handshy investigated the residential fire in the 100 block of Northmoor in June of 2025. With their diligence and investigation techniques they were able to quickly identify, arrest and prosecute the party responsible for the arson. We would like to say congratulations to Major Adams and Investigator Handshy for their accomplishment.
