UPDATE!
Thank you, Valerie, for going to get this baby all the way from here in Eastlake to bring it to the Sanctuary. You’re a true angel! 💗🐿️💗

TRANSPORTATION NEEDED!
Is there anyone near Warren that can pick up a baby from a lady in Leavittsburg and bring it to the Sanctuary? She does not have a car so has no way to get it here and none of the rehabbers in Trumbull County can take it. Little one needs to get here ASAP. It’s an orphan and it is unknown when the mother died. If you are able to do this, please text me at 440-520-4799

💞🐿️💞VOLUNTEERS NEEDED 💞🐿️💞
at Carmela’s Sanctuary of Squirrels
Located in Eastlake, Ohio

We are currently seeking 10-14 volunteers to help out on a regular basis with caring for the many squirrels entrusted to our care. Each year, we receive 300 to 400 squirrels, including orphaned kits and sick or injured adults. Volunteers are needed to help with feedings, cleaning, facility maintenance, etc. If you’re interested in spending a few hours each week helping out, please contact us via Messenger or send a text to 4fourO-52O-4799. We will be having orientation sessions where you can learn what we do here at the Sanctuary, get a tour, and meet some of our Ambassador Squirrels. Don’t hesitate! Contact us today!

The fall baby season is in full swing. Monday we took in 10 babies, including these three. They are now being fostered by Matt & Debbie - two of the Sanctuary’s subpermittees. They will raise the boys until they are fully weaned. Then the boys will come back here to go thru the soft release process back to the wild!

There have been a lot of people posing as licensed rehabbers in various groups here on Facebook. I want to clarify that I AM an Ohio DNR permit holder for both Category II Wildlife Rehabilitation and also for Education.

What does that mean? I, along with my subpermittees*, am able to obtain and rehabilitate orphaned wildlife that is indigenous to the State of Ohio. I am also able to rehabilitate ill or injured adult wildlife. Note that I specialize in squirrels and will only rehabilitate any of the 7 species of squirrels native to Ohio:
Eastern Gray Squirrel, Eastern Fox Squirrel, American Red Squirrel, Southern Flying Squirrel, Chipmunk, Groundhog/Woodchuck and 13-Lined Ground Squirrel.

As an Education Permit Holder, I am able to “possess live… mammals for display and educational use”.

I take my permits very seriously as they enable me to care for the precious lives of the squirrels that are brought to the Sanctuary for care. Thank you to the hundreds of finders that bring them to me every year.

*Subpermittees volunteering for the Sanctuary:
Patricia Juist, Abbey Cooke, Melissa Trent, Matt Rich, Debbie Rich, Justin Smith & Hunter Herron

Baby chipmunks are eating on their own but still need formula to help their bones develop. Healthy Blocks from HenrysPets.com are soaked in their formula so they get the nutrition they need.
