đźš® NEW YORK CITY IS TAKING TRASH BAGS OFF THE STREETS WITH 700+ MODERN GARBAGE BINS!
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has launched Brooklyn’s first residential Empire Bins, with more than 700 stationary, rodent-resistant containers being installed across Brooklyn Community District 2. The initiative aims to replace piles of garbage bags on sidewalks, reduce rat problems and make neighborhoods cleaner.
The rollout covers Downtown Brooklyn, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill and surrounding neighborhoods. Buildings with more than 30 residential units will receive the containers, while buildings with 10–30 units can opt in. Property managers will access them using key cards or smartphone apps, while sanitation workers will collect waste using automated side-loading trucks.
The program builds on a previous deployment of approximately 1,100 Empire Bins in Manhattan Community District 9. In 2027, six more community districts across the Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island are expected to receive more than 6,500 additional bins serving over 3,500 buildings.
The city's ultimate goal? Complete citywide trash containerization by the end of 2031, keeping garbage bags off sidewalks across New York City. 🏙️
