Still haven't gotten your flu shot? There's still time.

The CDC recommends that most people get vaccinated by the end of October for maximum protection, but vaccination still provides protection later in the season, too.

If you've been meaning to schedule yours, consider this your reminder.

Check with your local health center, pharmacy, or healthcare provider's office for appointments. Walk-in openings may be available too!

Halloween night means more children are walking through neighborhoods after dark—and everyone has a role in helping them get home safely. 🚗🎃

Drivers: slow down in residential areas, stay alert near intersections and driveways, and avoid distractions behind the wheel.

Handing out candy? Take a quick look at the path to your door. Clear away leaves, cords, decorations, or anything else that could cause a trip or fall, and make sure walkways are well lit.

Families: use sidewalks when available, cross at corners or crosswalks, and carry flashlights or glow sticks to help trick-or-treaters stay visible.

A few simple precautions can help make Halloween safer for the whole neighborhood.

When a stroke happens, every minute matters.

Knowing the warning signs can help you recognize a stroke and get emergency care quickly. Remember F.A.S.T.:

F — Face: Is one side drooping?
A — Arms: Is one arm weak or numb?
S — Speech: Is speech slurred or difficult?
T — Time: Call 911 right away.

On World Stroke Day, take a minute to learn the signs. Knowing what to look for could help save a life.

There’s still time to make your voice part of Kentucky’s Community Health Needs Assessment.

What makes it difficult for people in your community to get the care they need? Where are there gaps? What health needs deserve greater attention?

Feedback collected through this statewide survey will help identify healthcare needs and barriers and inform future planning, funding, and partnerships aimed at improving health outcomes for Kentuckians.

If you haven't participated yet, complete the survey before it closes at the end of October—and consider sharing it with others in your community, too.

Prevention is more than telling young people to “just say no.”

It’s creating homes, schools, and communities where young people feel supported, have trusted adults they can talk to, learn healthy ways to cope with stress, and have the information they need to make safer choices.

During Red Ribbon Week®, we want to highlight the role we can all play in preventing youth substance use. Parents, caregivers, educators, coaches, health professionals, and other trusted adults can make a difference by starting conversations early, listening without judgment, and continuing those conversations as kids grow.

Prevention starts long before a young person is faced with a decision about drugs. It starts with connection, education, and support. ❤️

Would you know what to do if someone around you experienced an opioid overdose?

If someone is unresponsive and breathing very slowly, irregularly, or not at all:

📱 Call 911.
→ Give naloxone if it's available.
🫁 Follow 911 dispatcher instructions and provide rescue breathing or CPR if appropriate.
→ If the person doesn't respond, additional naloxone doses may be needed.
👥 Stay with them until emergency help arrives.

You may never expect to respond to an overdose. Being prepared could give someone another chance.
