Helping First Responders Better Understand and Assist You
The Bladen County Sheriff's Office recognizes that individuals experiencing brain changes may communicate, understand, remember, or respond differently during stressful situations or emergencies.
The Brain Change Safety Profile is a voluntary form designed to help first responders better understand an individual's needs, recognize potential signs of distress, and provide assistance in a safe, respectful, and effective manner.
The form allows individuals or their families to share important information, including:
Behaviors or communication difficulties that may occur during stressful situations.
Signs that the individual may be confused, overwhelmed, frightened, or unable to respond as expected.
Communication approaches and calming techniques that may help.
Things that may cause distress or escalate a situation.
Preferred names, reassuring words, and emergency contacts or other helpful information.
Why Complete a Safety Profile?
Providing this information in advance may help first responders better understand an individual's behavior during an emergency or unexpected encounter. It can also help families communicate important information that may not be immediately apparent to responding personnel.
Participation is voluntary. Completing a profile does not guarantee a particular response or outcome during an emergency. Information should be kept current and shared with appropriate individuals who may need it during an emergency.
The Brain Change Safety Profile form is available for download on Bladen County Shewriff's Office Wed page. Please complete the form with accurate and helpful information to assist first responders in better understanding an individual's needs during an emergency.
Once completed, please email the form to Beth Singletary, 911 Director, at [email protected].
This information can help first responders provide a safer, more informed, and compassionate response when assistance is needed.
