Phones and apps are a big part of kids’ lives, and most of what they do online is good: connecting with friends, learning and having fun. Here are a few simple ways to help keep them safe. 📱💙
âś… Stay curious, not controlling. Ask what they love about their favorite apps and games.
âś… Go through privacy settings together.
âś… Set tech-free times, like phones charging outside the bedroom at night.
âś… Talk early and often.
Know the red flags: someone online who gives lots of attention or gifts, asks your child to keep secrets, wants to move the chat to a private app, or asks for photos.
Many kids stay quiet because they’re afraid of losing their phone or getting in trouble. Let them know they can always come to you. That’s one of the strongest protections there is.
If you’re concerned about a child, call the Tennessee Child Abuse Hotline at 1-877-237-0004. If a child is in immediate danger, call 911.
