Like many of our visitors, we don’t know their backstories, but we do know Fiona gets along with other dogs and still has energy to go for walks, play fetch, or snuggle up on the couch.

100 cats served with 12 kennels

That’s the total number of cats who’ve called our kennels home since March 30.

Some stay a day or two waiting to be reclaimed. Others stay for months. In fact, the top five longest guest in the shelter have all been cats who’ve called their kennels home for an average of 121 days.

Our goal has always been, and always will be, to provide lost and unclaimed pets a safe place as they wait for their forever home, but please, stop picking up small kittens or trapping cats on your own.

City ordinance does not allow the shelter to accept a stray pet from the public. Under sections 7-2-40 and 7-2-50, a member of the Fort Morgan Police Department is responsible for the humane trapping of stray and lost animals.

Even then, with 12 cat kennels, we may not be able to shelter a stray or feral cat because we refuse to create a stressful environment from overcrowding . We want our pets to stay as healthy and happy as possible while waiting for a new home.

If you find a small kitten or are having issues with cats in your neighborhood, please contact Code Enforcement at 970-867-5678.

These 2 gentlemen have found their way to the shelter. Please send their owners our way, so they can get home.

We are here for owner reclaims until 12 (Sunday) and we will be back tomorrow from 10am-3pm
