On this No-Early-Voting day I want to give a nod to the gal in these photos who, on April 10th, had no REAL understanding of how her life was about to change.
I’m proud to say, I filed for office and never looked back.
All summer, I showed up to every prior engagement I had — which was a lot. We were in 4 farmers markets per week, I had pottery classes on the books, our final litter of Great Pyrenees puppies were born (longest but best 8 weeks ever) and earlier in the year we bought a coffee trailer to start as Arlo’s legacy. I missed almost everything with my family, I forgot our anniversary (full transparency I’d have forgotten even if I wasn’t a candidate 😂), and to be honest with you I often felt stretched to max. Working 7 days a week but absolutely not crushing it financially with an added *absolutely full time* job as a candidate. I don’t say any of this for pity (I knew this would be a sacrifice, and well worth it) — but I do aim to give light to parts of the story that aren’t always obvious.
ON THE FLIP SIDE — because there’s always a flip side! — there were also so many wins.
I made new friends, many of whom will be lifelong besties. I have and continue to learn so much about our government and how we’re affected by their decisions. I was out in the community at events where I reconnected with people I haven’t seen in years, sometimes decades. I realized that more people believe in me than I could have imagined…and that’s an incredibly humbling feeling and a responsibility I’m proud to bear.
I’ll finish with this: life is an AND not an OR situation.
You can be exhausted and proud.
You can be kind and stand up for what you believe.
You can have come a long way and still have a long way to go.
You can be strong and a helper.
I can’t wait to see where life takes us TOGETHER. Thanks to all who have cast their votes for me so far - and to everyone who will do so between tomorrow and 11/3.
The future, she is BRIGHT. ✨🇺🇸❤️
