🚨 Ohio just opened one of the most realistic firefighter training facilities in the country. On October 23, Governor Mike DeWine joined State Fire Marshal Kevin Reardon and other officials to dedicate the new Search and Rescue Building at the Ohio Fire Academy campus outside Columbus, a project that cost roughly $20 million.

The 18,000 square foot structure stands five stories tall and was engineered to safely mimic the emergencies first responders actually face 🔥. Inside, crews can run scenario based drills in spaces designed to resemble hospital wings, hotel corridors, nursing homes, retail stores and other commercial and residential buildings, with smoke simulation and multi story searches built in. Officials said an estimated 8,000 firefighters, EMS workers and other emergency personnel are expected to train at the site every year 🚒. The dedication was paired with a graduation ceremony for 32 cadets from Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana who completed a 10 week Firefighter I and II program at the academy.
