Franklin Firefighters participated this week in hands-on electric vehicle fire suppression and extrication training with Junk Yard Dogs Extrication out of Chicago.

Crews worked through real-world scenarios, utilizing our fire blanket and Turtle Nozzle while sharpening extrication techniques and strategies for electric vehicle emergencies.

As vehicle technology continues to evolve, so must our training, tactics, and equipment.

An incredible job by the Brockton Fire Department in a challenging and dangerous house fire that resulted in five residents being rescued and four firefighters injured. This incident is another reminder of the importance of having the personnel needed to protect our communities and each other.

We wish the injured firefighters a speedy recovery and commend everyone who worked to bring this incident to a successful conclusion.

Group 4 training today with a “Long Lug Out” drill, focusing on self rescue, hose-line orientation and navigation in zero-visibility conditions. Firefighters use the hose couplings as a tactile reference to determine which direction they need to travel when visibility is limited.

Today’s evolution also incorporated a forcible entry door and low-profile props, adding realistic obstacles and challenges to the drill.
