The California Nursery Historical Park is a city park in Fremont. John Rock started his nursery operations “Rock’s Nurseries” in San Jose in 1865. George C.

The California Nursery Garden Club tends the gardens around the historic nursery office in cooperation with the City of Fremont and the Math Science Nucleus. Rock and partners bought 463 acres in Niles to found the California Nursery Company in 1884. Roeding, owner of Fancher Creek and other nurseries, bought the nursery in 1917. In the 1930s, the Fancher Creek name was dropped and the California Nursery Company was used for all locations. The nursery grounds contain the Vallejo adobe. The park is owned by the City of Fremont. The Math Science Nucleus manages portions of the park.

Getting ready to celebrate a spooky and fun Halloween? Take a walk in “The Woods” at the Historic California Nursery to discover a friendly scarecrow made from the dried Maximilian sunflower stalks found in the park. This is a North American perennial sunflower that grows in the Midwest to a height of 4-10 feet and showcases between 10-25 flowers per stalk. Hope you got to see these amazing flowers in full bloom during the late summer.
Plant fundraiser this morning 9am-12pm. Help support the volunteers with needed supplies to care for this amazing garden.

A big THANK YOU to the community and high school volunteers that showed up this last Saturday for a massive Daffodil bulb planting along with some garden maintenance. Over 800 bulbs were planted!! So stay tuned for hopefully a huge February-March bloom. This community ROCKS!!

VOLUNTEER WORK PARTY
Join in the fun of helping to beautify the old gardens at the Historic California Nursery while bringing back a time honored tradition of preparing the garden for Spring blooms. With a thousand daffodil bulbs ready to plant, we need some helping hands. Please join us this Saturday. (Must be 14 - 99 years old)
Sign in will be at the shed behind the blue and yellow windmill. Please print out and bring the signed Volunteer Liability Waiver form at https://sites.google.com/view/thecalifornianurserygardenclub/Volunteers
(If under 18, form must be signed by a parent).

Keeping cool on these hot October Summer days can be a challenge but try taking a walk through the Woods and shaded gardens at the Historic California Nursery Gardens. Deep into the gardens you can find hidden gems of beauty just waiting to be found, so take an easy walk and enjoy a break from the heat.
Thursday morning plant pop-up fundraiser will be there 9am-12pm.

Fall is officially here and the park wildlife is going crazy with all the acorns and olives falling from the trees. If you look around you may spot this hoarder of acorns up in the Palm trees. It is an Acorn Woodpecker!
Thank you to one of the Garden Volunteers, Michael, for capturing this beauty.
Thursday Fundraiser today, 9am-12pm with a variety of plants and succulent arrangements. We are currently raising funds to embrace the historic tradition of the Daffodil plantings.
