🦅💛 What a week at Friendsville Elementary! 💛🦅

Our hallways buzzed with excitement as we wrapped up a busy week of learning, family engagement, and fun! ❤️

❤️ Red Ribbon Week: Our students and staff showed their spirit with themed dress-up days as we celebrated making healthy, safe, and positive choices!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Title I Family Night: We hosted our first Title I Family Night of the school year! We love opportunities to bring our families together and strengthen the connections between home and school.

🚀 Science in Action: Today, Mr. Trautwein taught our students about force using a trebuchet! Students were excited as they watched pumpkins get chucked and saw science in action! 🎃💥

A special THANK YOU to Mr. Trautwein for sharing his knowledge and expertise with our students and families! During Title I Family Night, he demonstrated the trebuchet and helped students learn how to build their own catapults using popsicle sticks, rubber bands, and bottle caps. What a fun way to bring science to life! 👏

📚 Literary Characters Take Over! Take a closer look at today's pictures and see if you can spot the many literary characters who graced our hallways! From favorite storybook friends to familiar faces from beloved books, reading was certainly alive and well at Friendsville!

What a wonderful way to wrap up the week! Thank you to our staff, families, and community members who help make learning meaningful, engaging, and fun for our Eagles. 🦅

🍄📚 A little story, a lot of teamwork, and a sprinkle of imagination! 🥣✨

After reading Café at the Edge of the Woods, our Pre-K friends brought the story to life by working together to create their very own recipe! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Our little chefs practiced important math and life skills as they measured ingredients, followed directions, and collaborated to make something special. But the fun didn’t stop there! We also became authors, using descriptive words to rename our ingredients and add our own creative twist to the recipe! ✏️💭

From measuring and mixing to imagining and describing, we explored how reading, writing, math, and teamwork can all come together in one delicious learning experience! ❤️

We are so proud of our little learners for using their creativity, sharing ideas, and discovering that even the simplest ingredients can inspire BIG imaginations! 🌟📖🧁

Garrett County Public Schools (GCPS) has been made aware of reports of scam callers posing as representatives of GCPS. These callers may use spoofed phone numbers that appear legitimate and may request personal or other sensitive information.

We encourage all stakeholders to remain vigilant. If you receive a suspicious call, do not share personal information until you have independently verified the caller’s identity. Caller ID alone should not be relied upon to confirm that a call is legitimate.

Helpful Tips to Protect Yourself from Scam Calls
• Verify the caller. Caller ID can be spoofed to make a call appear to come from a legitimate GCPS phone number.
• Protect your information. Do not share personal, financial, or student information with an unverified caller.
• When in doubt, hang up. Contact the school or department directly using an official phone number listed on the GCPS website.
• Report suspicious calls. Notify GCPS or the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) if you receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to represent the school system: Mr. Mike Bittinger, GCPS Manager of Safety & Security, at 301-334-7986, or the GCSO at 301-334-1911.

GCPS will not request personal information over the phone. Thank you for helping us protect our students, families, staff, and community. Please share this notice to help raise awareness.

🚒🔥 A BIG THANK YOU to our firefighters! 🔥🚒

A special thank you to Firefighter Jeff T***s from the Bruceton-Brandonville Volunteer Fire Department and Firefighter Devin Cale from the Camp Dawson Fire Department for taking time out of their morning to visit Friendsville Elementary!

Our students learned about fire prevention, fire safety, and the important work firefighters do to keep our community safe. We are grateful for these valuable learning experiences and for the dedicated first responders who give their time to educate and protect our students and families.

Thank you, Jeff and Devin, for all you do for our community! ❤️🚒

🌱🔬 Learning in Action at Friendsville Elementary! 🐸🌿

Our Gifted and Talented students rolled up their sleeves and headed outdoors to gather water from the Youghiogheny River right behind our school and collect other natural materials to create their very own sealed ecosystems! 🌎💧

This hands-on culminating activity brought their study of ecosystems to life as students applied their learning about how living and nonliving things interact and work together to create a balanced environment.

We love seeing our Eagles SOAR through curiosity, critical thinking, and real-world science! 🦅💚

🎉 96.6% — Now THAT’S Something to SOAR About! 🦅

Friendsville Eagles had an AMAZING September with a 96.6% average attendance rate! 👏🎉

Every day students are at school is another day filled with learning, growing, connecting, and making memories with their friends. Our students are showing us that they are ready to SOAR!

A HUGE thank-you to our families for making school attendance a priority and to our staff for creating a school that our students want to come to each day. ❤️

Let’s keep the momentum going, Eagles! 96.6% in September… can we SOAR even higher in October? 🚀

🍂🎶 Learning, Laughter & Friends at the Springs Folk Festival! 🎶🍂

Our 2nd–5th graders had an incredible day at the Springs Folk Festival! From exploring the festival's sights and sounds to trying new things together, our students had the chance to learn, laugh, and make memories with their friends. ❤️

The general feedback from both our staff and students was that this was one of the best field trips ever! We loved seeing our students enjoy the experience together and share the day with the friends who make school so special.

A HUGE thank-you to our parents and families for trusting us with your children and allowing us to provide these special learning experiences outside the classroom. We are grateful for the confidence you place in our staff each day.

What a wonderful day for our Eagles! 🦅🍁 Friendsville Eagles SOAR!

🍎🎃 Pumpkins, Apples & A Whole Lot of Hands-On Learning! 🎃🍎

Our Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade students had a stem-tacular day learning all about pumpkins and apples! From exploring plant life cycles to investigating the parts of an apple, our youngest Eagles were busy learning, experimenting, counting, creating, and, of course, having FUN!

Their STEM adventures included:

🎃 Cleaning out a pumpkin and using skip counting to determine how many seeds were inside
🌋 Creating a pumpkin volcano and exploring cause and effect
🍎 Learning about the parts of an apple
🌱 Exploring plant life cycles
🥨 Building and enjoying an apple nacho bar
🔍 Using hands-on exploration to make connections between science, math, and the world around them

Who says learning has to happen sitting at a desk?! Our Eagles know that sometimes the best learning happens when you can touch it, test it, count it, create it, and even taste it!

What a fantastic day of hands-on, minds-on learning at Friendsville Elementary! 🦅🍎🎃
