🦌 IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN! 🦌

The deer are officially in the rut, which means the bucks are chasing the ladies, romance is in the air, and apparently traffic laws are the last thing on their minds! 😂

All jokes aside, PLEASE SLOW DOWN AND USE CAUTION ON OUR ROADWAYS!

During this time of year, deer are much more active and unpredictable. If you see one cross the road, there’s a good chance more are following close behind!

A few reminders:
🚗 Slow down, especially during early morning and evening hours.
🦌 Stay alert and watch the shoulders of the roadway.
🚨 If one crosses in front of you, expect others!
⚠️ Don’t swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid a deer. Brake firmly and stay in control.

A few extra seconds on your drive is worth it. We’d much rather see you arrive a few minutes late than meet you on an emergency call!

Stay alert, slow down, and watch out for our four-legged speedsters!

🚨 INCIDENT ALERT – ACTIVE INCIDENT 🚨

An active incident is currently ongoing near the intersection of Crainseville Road and Snaggy Mountain Road.

Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Company (DCVFC) has been alerted to assist our brothers and sisters at Oakland Volunteer Fire Department with a reported tractor-trailer fire.

⚠️ PLEASE AVOID THE AREA IF POSSIBLE!

* Use alternate routes and expect delays.
* Give emergency responders plenty of room to operate.
* Do not approach the scene or attempt to drive through the emergency area.
* Watch for responding emergency vehicles.

Please keep the firefighters and first responders operating on scene in your thoughts as they work to safely manage this incident.

PUBLIC INFORMATION RELEASE
Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Company – Company 30

October 27, 2026

At approximately 0128 hours on October 27, 2026, Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Company (DCVFC), Garrett County Emergency Services (GCES), and Maryland State Police (MSP) were dispatched for an automatic crash notification in the area of Archie’s BBQ.

Within minutes of dispatch Garrett County Emergency Services Supervisor Chase 11 arrived on scene and located a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

DCVFC personnel arrived shortly thereafter and worked to bring the fire under control within minutes of arriving on scene. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of responding personnel, the victim succumbed to their injuries.

While DCVFC strives to provide timely information and updates to our community, we made the decision to delay this release out of respect for the victim and their family, allowing time for proper family notification and for those closest to the victim to process this tragic loss.

As a volunteer fire company, we often share updates about our responses, training, and the work our members do throughout our community. However, not every call has a positive outcome. There is also a difficult and heartbreaking side to emergency services that our members experience, and it is important that we acknowledge that reality with the respect and sensitivity it deserves.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s family, friends, and everyone affected by this tragedy. We also recognize the responding personnel who worked through a difficult incident in the early morning hours.

We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Slopeside Market for providing warm coffee and food to first responders who remained on scene for more than three hours working through this incident. Gestures like this may seem simple, but they mean a great deal, especially during difficult and emotionally challenging incidents. It is a reminder of the strength of our community and the way we come together to support one another when it matters most. We are grateful for your kindness and continued support.

Please keep all those affected in your thoughts.

In God We Trust.

🚒 TRAIN LIKE THEIR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT — BECAUSE IT DOES! 🚒

Training is what prepares us to perform when seconds count and lives are on the line!

A HUGE shout-out to Buddy’s Towing and Boomlift Rentals for providing not only the vehicles but also the lot to make this hands-on training possible! Your support helps our VOLUNTEERS sharpen their skills and better prepare for the real-world emergencies we face.

Training with the HURST Jaws of Life gives our members the opportunity to get hands-on experience, see firsthand how vehicles react under different cutting and spreading techniques, and understand how our rescue tools perform in real-world scenarios. 🚒🛠️

There’s a big difference between learning how a tool works and actually putting it to use. This type of training bridges that gap, allowing our members to build confidence, improve their techniques, and prepare for the challenges they may face on an actual incident.

At Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Company, we believe preparation is key. When someone is trapped and counting on us, we need to be ready to go to work!

We train hard so we can perform when it matters most. 💪

Thank you again to Buddy’s Towing and Boomlift Rentals for investing in our VOLUNTEERS and helping us train to serve our community better!
