White Mountain National Forest Responds
to Wild River Fire
Gorham, NH, November 2, 2026 At approximately 1:00 p.m. on Sunday November 1st,
USDA Forest Service, White Mountain National Forest, fire personnel responded to the Wild
River Fire, in Coos County, New Hampshire. The fire is located approximately 7 miles southeast
of Gorham, New Hampshire. The Wild River Fire is currently estimated to be roughly 300 acres
in size.
Drought persists, and dry conditions are present throughout the fire area. The Wild River Fire is
actively burning in timber, snags, and leaf litter. Firefighters are responding with the goal of
confining the perimeter as quickly as possible, while providing for firefighter and public safety.
Gaining access to the fire is difficult due to steep and rugged terrain. Over forty personnel are
currently assigned to the Wild River Fire. Use of unauthorized unmanned aerial systems (UAS),
or drones, in a fire area endangers the lives of pilots and firefighters. Never fly unmanned aircraft
over or near a fire.
The Wild River Fire was first reported on Sunday afternoon, November 1, 2026, and the cause is
under investigation. There are presently no significant threats to life or property.
