Grand Haven State Park hosted a three-day water rescue training put on by the Michigan DNR Parks and Recreation Division, with 18 participants from PRD and the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety.
The course included both operations- and technician-level training, with pool skills, inland-water scenarios at Bass River Recreation Area, and Great Lakes and channel rescue scenarios at Grand Haven State Park. Two GHSP officers completed the technician-level track.
Today’s training also included joint channel extraction work with U.S. Coast Guard Station Grand Haven and use of their recently added radio capabilities, which greatly improvesdirect communication and coordination between crews.
Thanks to USCG Station Grand Haven for training with us, DNR Wildlife Division for providing equipment, and DNR Fire Resources Division for providing staff and equipment to help keep our rescue gear washed down and clean throughout the course.
And congratulations to GHDPS’s five newest officers, who wrapped up training and then had to hustle back for their badge pinning ceremony this afternoon!
