Mesa County Valley School District 51 School District 51 is the largest district on the West Slope of CO,
14th largest in the State. Mesa County Valley School District uses social media (e.g.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube) to further the mission and vision of the District and regards social media as an extension of the District’s educational mission, including the promotion of respectful and thoughtful civic discourse. The District uses social media to communicate positivity and unity in our school district, as well as important information concerning the District and its schools, such as school-sponsored events, programs, student and staff achievements and recognitions, and other school-related subject matters and topics. The District’s use of these sites is restricted to topics and content related to legitimate educational purposes. The District’s social media sites are regularly monitored to ensure that the sites’ use is limited to the purposes discussed above and organized in a manner that enhances navigation. Thus, even when there is an opportunity to comment on a District post, the District may hide or delete comments that are unrelated to the subject matter or topic of the original post, unsuitable for a K-12 environment, inconsistent with the District’s educational mission, or interferes with the District’s obligation to provide a welcoming educational environment for all students. Any comments expressed on District social media sites in response to District content do not reflect the opinions and positions of the District, its directors, or staff. Similarly, links to other internet sites that appear in comments of other posts should not be construed as the District’s endorsement of the content or views presented on those sites. The following rules apply to all visitors to this page:
- Be Kind and Courteous. In simple terms, be nice. We are here to uplift our students and our district. There are other venues for complaints, concerns, and other topics that would be better addressed in a one-on-one fashion, including calls and emails to a specific school, the district, or a particular department.
- No Hate Speech, Bullying or Harassment – period. Any kind of this communication is not allowed and will be removed.
- Comments not related to a post will be removed. There are always options for your concerns to be heard. Please see the list below as a place to start.
- If you do not follow the rules above and continue to have your comments removed, you will also be removed from the site. Where to get help:

What better way to celebrate Colorado Proud Month than with a recipe from one of our own local ranchers? 🧡

Ranchers from Van Winkle, Razorback, and Peterson farms joined us at Grand Junction High School to try a new beef quesadilla featuring a special recipe from Janie Van Winkle herself! Chef Ted prepared the quesadillas, and our guests got a firsthand look at how the beef they raise becomes part of the meals D51 students enjoy.

That local connection is something we’re proud to keep investing in. D51 is committing $75,000 of its $347,000 Local Food Program grant to Mesa County beef, supporting local ranchers and bringing food raised right here to our students’ lunch trays.

Thank you to our ranching partners and our Nutrition Services team for giving us a delicious reason to be Colorado Proud!

Happy Halloween from D51!

Our D51 staff understood the assignment this Halloween! 🎃

Our Early Childhood Education crew showed up as a colorful box of crayons 🖍️, Broadway Elementary brought Toy Story to life 🤠, and Wingate Elementary took a trip down the rabbit hole to Wonderland!

We love seeing our teachers and staff have a little fun and get into the Halloween spirit!

Wishing all of our D51 students, staff, and families a fun and safe Halloween!

There’s room for everyone on the field. ⚽💙

D51’s Adapted Soccer Tournament returned to Fruita Monument High School, bringing together students with and without disabilities from every D51 high school. Our students brought plenty of competitive spirit, but they also celebrated one another’s success!

That’s what makes this tournament special. Students get to represent their schools and play hard while knowing they have people rooting for them.

Thank you to Katie Hummel, D51 Adaptive Physical Education teacher, for organizing the tournament, and to Fruita Monument High School for hosting. We also appreciate PROJECT SEARCH with Community Hospital and D51 for providing first aid services and water throughout the event!

🦇 Things got a little batty at Mesa View Elementary just in time for Halloween! 🎃

On Wednesday, wildlife biologist Dan Neubaum visited Mesa View’s LEGO League team, the Chicken Hawks, to teach students about bats, the challenges these animals face, and what to do if they encounter one.

Thank you, Dan, for sharing your expertise and encouraging our students’ curiosity about the wildlife around them!

National First Responders Day was yesterday, October 28, but our gratitude extends far beyond one day. ❤️

To the first responders who serve our community: thank you for keeping our schools, students, staff, and families safe. Thank you for answering the call when help is needed and for coming into our classrooms to teach students about everyday safety.

The time you spend in our schools makes a difference. You help students feel prepared, build trust, and remind them that there are caring people they can turn to when they need help.

From all of us at D51, thank you for your courage, compassion, and commitment to our community. You are our real-life heroes, and we are grateful for you every day.

At Palisade High School, investing in new teachers means making time for learning, connection, and community!

Through an 11-week onboarding program, new teachers gather every Tuesday morning for an hour to learn the ins and outs of their school, ask questions, and get to know the people who can help them along the way.

Each week focuses on a different topic, from student supports and pathways to the school’s International Baccalaureate framework. Front office staff, counselors, special education teams, and other departments join in to share what they do and how they can help.

The program wraps up with feedback from the group and a personal thank-you from Principal Daniel Bollinger, along with backpacks filled with T-shirts, gift cards, and some of the teachers’ favorite things! 🎒

Help us celebrate Trish Gibson, Caleb Hicks, Mitch Wyatt, Russell Dysart, Cori Ward, Blaine Escher, Vanessa Moore, Araceli Marinez Garcia, Audrey Hurren, Gavin Rucks, Martha Mauricio, Caleb Brown, and Jessica Emilsson!

Thank you, PHS, for helping new teachers feel supported, appreciated, and part of the Bulldog community. Belonging matters for our staff, too! 💛
