Every Minnesota public school student is part of a trust fund, and it has been growing for over 160 years.

When Minnesota became a state back in 1858, millions of acres of public land were set aside in a permanent trust dedicated strictly to funding public education. Revenue generated from those lands through timber, mining, and leases goes directly into the Minnesota Permanent School Fund.

Here is why it matters today:

It is worth over $2.3 billion. Thanks to smart investments and growth, the trust fund has grown significantly from around $675 million in 2010 to more than $2.3 billion today.

Every district benefits. Every traditional public school district, charter school, and tribal school in Minnesota receives money directly from this fund every single year, with zero strings attached.

Zero tax increase. This is not taxpayer money from property or income taxes. It is returns from state investments and natural resources working directly for our kids.

Whether your kids attend school in urban, suburban, or rural Minnesota, they have a built-in trust fund backing their education.
